Vulcan's up!

If you remember the operational displays of the Vulcan then you will be disappointed with what it is allowed to do in civil hands today but at least it is still flying.

Remember them being a Waddington. was down there on exercise, and it was very impressive when one of them scrambled

I used to visit most of the V bases and remember a 6 vulcan scramble from Waddo in the late 70's a very impressive sight.

I can remember, as a lad,the old Finningley Air Shows when they used to scramble 4 Vulcans to open their air shows with thier steep climb outs and turns. The ground just seemed to tremble.

Nobody seemed to worry about costs then.

That was when petrol was 20p a gallon and aviation fuel was a give away!!!

There was always a Vulcan at Finningley BoB days, great times!

Just after the Falklands the RAF used two vulcan display aircraft XH558 and XL426 both used callsign Vulcan01 during air displays.

Rather than the image, it's the sound of those engines howling gets my blood pumping, as for the prototype and pre-production Concorde Olympus 593s, quite something else again! Where I live, it used to be fantastic hearing the Concordes coming home (UK and French) every evening - now sadly missed by thousands.

She's up again...14.40 display at Biggin, 15.30 possible practice display at Lyneham, 15.50ish return to Brize Norton according to Twitter.

Not necessarily - GAS has the Vulcan in its database as G-VLCN (which is correct as this is it's current registration), so if your database is autopopulated by GAS rather than manually edited to have XH558 as the registration, then looking for XH558 in the list or by setting an Alert isn't going to work.

If you use the Hex code 40109F then you can't go wrong, as this will show even if you don't have the Vulcan's data in your NavData.db3 database.

It's worth looking in MyLog to see if you already have 40109F as you might have picked up the Vulcan without realising it :-)

And of course, the Vulcan will only show up in MyFlights, not via the Network, as it doesn't transmit position information :-(
