New RBuser from France
« on: October 22, 2007, 07:47:24 PM »
Hello,

My name is Patrick, i'm French (thats explains my poor English ..)
Electronicien and Ham radio (call F6GSG)

So i'm an happy user of a RB since one week !!!
Purchased via WIMO with speedy delivery  (no problem).

i have make this choice because some friends have SBS-1 and i want
to change !!!!

i'm not disappointed .... good electronic, and the v1.3 seems
very good. (good evolutions)

i have only two small problems:

1) I have not succeeded to draw some airport in the directory out !!!
i have get some zip in the forum (and tuto) , but nothing.
is there a special function to activate and to have the draw from out file
in the map ?

2) the trails line is also short, even if i put long time in the preference
windows.
Sometime i want to "trace" some flight (as the A380) how is it possible to
have this kind of map (like SBS-1)

About the antenna, i have build a Franklin Antenna, and it's 4.5 dB of Gain
and it's very easy to build and cheap (i will make a tuto about this antenna)

Thanks
Patrick

Patrick,

Welcome to the forum :-)

In answer to your questions:

1) Make sure that when you unzip the outline file to your /Program Files/AirNav Systems/RadarBox 2007/Outlines - that the file is saved as *****.out and not ****.out.txt

Where have you got your out files from? Can you post one here for me to test?

2) I see what you mean.  I think that 300 seconds is the maximum trail length.  You are correct, setting this for a longer time makes no difference.

I'm very interested in your home-brew antenna and I look forward to more details.

All the best

Patrick,

Try this outline file for RAF Shawbury EGOS

So you can find it on the map, here is the lat/lon

     Lat/Lon:     52.8° N 2.7° W

Right click on the link and use "Save as" and put the file in:

Program Files/AirNav Systems/RadarBox 2007/Outlines/

Hi,

Thank you for your help,
now it's good ...

The name established by the software is OUT and not OUTLINES...
i was established a directory OULINES ... and ignore the directory OUT.

put in  OUT directory, now the files works well

Sorry for the max time of 300 seconds for the trial line, i hope thats in a futur we
can "track" a flight (only one) for more longer time (exercise, test ...).

For the antenna i will make a small tutorial how to build this simple antanna
low cost and good performance.
Some friend use it with the SBS-1 with success.(more than 250 nm of listenning,
with this antenna and an amplifier).
i think that i'm the only user of Rbox in the south of France !!!!

Thanks
Patrick

OK Patrick,

I can't remember what the Out directory is for, you are correct, the .out files must go in the /Outlines directory and not the /Out directory - very confusing :-)

This is from the AirNav FAQ

Once you have downloaded outline files for any source or have a outline file created by Reception Logger:

1.) Go to your RadarBox 2007 folder (Usually however dependant on your drive name C:\Program Files\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox 2007)
2.) Create a new folder called "Outlines"
3.) Open that folder and place your outlines files in there
4.) Close RadarBox 2007 if its open and start RadarBox 2007 again

The outlines should now be displayed on your map. If they do not appear go to the Menu Map and click Outlines.

To hide the Outline, go the Menu Map and untick Outlines or delete the specific outline file from the Outlines folder.

I'm sure I can see your network data from the South of France - excellent, the coverage is expanding.

Allocator,

The only file I have in the Out folder is a polar diagram plot.
