the "lay of the land" - where the buttons are.
« on: May 16, 2009, 10:50:26 PM »
Ok, I am still a new person here but.....

When I first come here - well to where I bookmarked - I can read all the posts, start a new topic and the like.

There are two little "links" near the top left:  Show unread posts since last visit and show new replies to your posts.

Sure, they are handy, but as soon as I follow either of them - checking what's happened - I can't start a new thread.  I have to go back to the first screen.

That is a bit odd.  Why can't I start a new topic at nearly any screen?

You need to be in a specfic section such as RadarBox or Screenshots before you can post a topic to it.

Ok, seems I didn't explain myself.

I came in and checked for replies to my posts.  None.  Then looked for new posts since last visit.

Neither of these two screens allow me to start a new topic.

This is where I have bookemarked:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?board=4.0

When I go to this link:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?action=unread
There is no "New topic" button, which means I have to go back to the first place.

(And just mentioning) the "new topic" button is a bit inconspicuous.  Unless I know where to look, it is hard to see.

Ok, also maybe it is because I am in a few different forums too.  But it would be nice if they all had a similar layout.

Just mentioning.

That link shows you the unread posts in all sections such as RadarBox, Screenshots, FAQ etc..

But if you had new topic button there how would it know which section you are placing the topic to be in.

Hence why you need to be in a particular section for the new topic button to appear.

Ah, ok.

Maybe you need a "show new posts in THIS topic since last visit" which then allows you to start a new topic.

For now I am only in ONE section, so I guess to me that wasn't something I considered.

I'll stop talking now.  ;)
