Line of sight.
« on: May 07, 2009, 01:58:53 PM »
Where my Radarbox is positioned I have a pretty good field of vision, talking actual vision here not Radarbox, over west central Scotland. But I got so fed up opening & closing the window trying to see aircraft on the fringes that I decided to print off a compass, set it with an actual compass & cut to the extremes of my view out the window.I have taped it to the window-sill & can now see at a glance the bearing etc.

At this point someone will of course come in & tell me that there is a field of vision option on Radarbox LOL

I have not posted this  for any other reason other than to illustrate that after 1 week of having this thing I am beginning to doubt my sanity!

Brimon,

Go to Map and scroll down to radar rings and click on that. You'll get what you need.

Cheers,

Ian

It's worth checking out which upper airways are close to your location. There's an option to switch them on in aviation signs overlay but not sure how up to date they are.

Either way you can get the latest en-route charts from NATS (you want the North Sheet in ENR 6.3.0)

Ian I have the radar rings up,but the sticky back plastic solution was purely for convienece & a rough guide as to where I should be looking.

Chris,I "cough cough aquired" a disc full of charts,Jepperson etc some time ago & have also used the nats site frequently. Thanks for the heads up.

Good stuff there Brimon, didn't mean to teach grandma to suck eggs ;) Now i'd suggest painting the compass points on your patio but that probably wouldn't go down too well with your better half. A nice antique brass ships compass parhaps?

chris,Don't give me ideas! then again....I may surreptitiously order one of these sundial type patios & ensure that it is aligned north with flagstones for the other points.

Brimon<gets spade out,if not to lay patio to hit wife & bury her under it with her butt pointing north of course!

Would that not interfere with your line of sight?
