Lots of Mode S IDs with no data (question)

Many, perhaps the majority of aircraft I receive in Bogotá transmit a Mode S ID for which there is zero information in the database.  No registration, no photos, nothing.  Most of these are Colombian IDs, along (so far) with a few more from the region (Venezuelan, Ecuadorean, Caribbean, etc.). 

If I got motivated to do it, how would I start to link these Mode S transmissions up with actual aircraft information?

A related issue:  Lots of aircraft (maybe 15%) that I get are US-registered planes that have been sold (leased?) to Colombian airlines.  Well, at least they are still sending a US Mode S code.

Anyway, I get lots of Dash and similar aircraft that come back as being US Airways, Mesa Aviation, or some other US regional carrier.  Obviously those carriers don't fly small planes in Colombia and these aircraft are being operated by Colombian carriers.  When and how does this info get updated?

Have you looked up those Mode-S codes on these websites.  It might show newer information for those aircrafts.

I also been trying to get the AirNav Database updated so other RadarBox users can also get the new updated data.  I been dealing with few aircrafts where AirNav Systems database is still showing old information for over 1 or 2 years.

What needs to be done.  Have a web interface where us RadarBox Users can Add/Change information.  If the web interface is done right.  It could have a 'Database Updates" page where it would show what has been updated.
like ("Changed" , "Admin Name" , "Date Changed")
It would also fix those blank(...) data the database sends out in the ICAO field.

I just wish it could be done.  but the past few months AirNav Systems doesn't want to help us RadarBox user with a way to get better data to us users. :(

Its not a simple as its seems Brian.

This has been brought up before and westated we don't want to create an independant database like that as we feel regardless it will never be 100% correct and we will stick end up getting stick for it as customers will say it should be updated Proffesionally.

We are running off the GAS system and there system is based in a similar way. There are some issues in some of the links between GAS and us which we are looking into.

However at this time we do not feel we should take that route when GAS is already there. Creating a system as you mention would increase the cost for us and also go over ground that GAS has covered anyway.

What happens when GAS closes up shop one of these years.  Then we us users are left behind with a outdated database.  Till AirNav Systems tries to do something to fill in the gap.  Just need a backup plan before it happens.

The other part of the question, which may be resolved in 2.10, is how go updates to existing entries get triggered, when for example operators change?
Or in US mode - the entire Airframe for a specific Mode-S gets changed?
Based in Hexham - Tyne Valley 
Best view for RB is North of a line between EGNT and EGNC  - includes OTA and Spade, to EGPH above 7500ft.   Can be TRUE mobile with Mobile Broadband feed to Network.

Firstly the data is GAS is passed to across to our main server (or should be though the link has a few issues in some areas). So if they dissapear we will at least have the data.

As mentioned in a earlier post which had similar posts as above the changes required need a rethink of the whole database system and server link. Sorry but these changes will not be in 2.10.

So It is what it is and there is no foreseen fix on the horizon as of yet.

Could you have RB just populate the pictures from airliner and have GAS fill in the correct operator or owner along with the aircraft info?

What we have now is just not working for South, Central and North America.
I am sure GAS could make a populate utility to help with this.

I just don’t see Airnavs RB business growing in the US with out some sort of fix here.

I also suggest that you join the mode S yahoo group.

They have members in Brazil, Mexico etc that may be able to help with the airliners. 

Unfortunately as you are probably the first one in your part of the world to decode the aircraft.  Your best bet will be to take your Radarbox with a laptop to the airport and tie up aircraft in myflights visually with aircraft arriving.

I'd probably get arrested if I took the RB to the airport.  But even if I did, I typically have 5-6, sometimes 8-10 unidenified Mode S signals at a time. I don't know how I could accurately tie them up because I don't know how I'd know which was which.

Ran the box for a couple hours today, still with a temporary antenna hookup, here are all the unidentifieds I got:

That is a dilemma, I guess you can't use airband to even attempt to identify callsigns against height in an airport arrival stream.

When version 2.1 of Radarbox software is released, you might well find that many of these unidentified aircraft will show flight ID's, and that will help in pinning down the aircraft.

Although not giving tie-ups this website may help.

It is the ICAO RVSM agency for you region.  On the websites of some regions they give Mode-S tie ups.  However for the South America they only give registration.  Look on the monitoring tab and go to approved aircraft.
