What messages are included on port 7879?
« on: September 27, 2007, 05:31:29 PM »
I'm very interested in the individual Mode-S messages and whether the RadarBox will meet my needs.

The FAQ gives one sample message for a message on port 7879. What are all the messages included on this port? Or what is the schema for the XML? It would be great if this could be documented for us.

For example, which DF messages are include? Is the DF=4 included?

For Mode S ADS-B, DF=17, are airborne, surface position, and velocity messages included?

What about ADS-B On Condition messages, the "Target State and Status Message" and "Aircraft Operational Status"? Are they included?

Thank you very much!

I wonder if someone who already has a RadarBox would be willing to send me a sample file that they have recorded over port 7879?

I'd like official documentation, but a sample file would be a nice start.

Hi wekelly,

The output is based on that format in the FAQ. The maximum amount of fields are shown below:

<MODESMESSAGE>
   <DATETIME>20070622141943</DATETIME>
   <MODES>400F2B</MODES>
   <CALLSIGN>BAW134</CALLSIGN>
   <ALTITUDE>120300</ALTITUDE>
   <GROUNDSPEED>451</GROUNDSPEED>
   <TRACK>234</TRACK>
   <VRATE>0</VRATE>
   <AIRSPEED></AIRSPEED>
   <LATITUDE>-14.1102</LATITUDE>
   <LONGITUDE>-31.5789</LONGITUDE>
</MODESMESSAGE>

The actual xml message combines any it has received before therefore saving in transferring cost of the xml data message.

It does not have any ADS-B on condition messages. You seem to be want quite a detailed output. At the moment RadarBox 2007 does not provide that. Get in contact us through support and we can identify what you think it should have and we will include in a later version.

So far we have not had detailed requests on the output port as customers have just been using it to for external apps to logs positions and aircraft only, not detailed analysis on the messages.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for your timely reply!

That answers my question perfectly.

Ideally, I just need to log the raw Mode-S and ADS-B bits. The five minute delay is fine. Neither the SBS-1/BaseStation or RadarBox does that at the moment.

Is there a chance to get more info into that stream on next patch level???
My choices would be tags like REGISTRATION, AIRCRAFT, ROUTE, SQUAWK, PICTURELINK and COMPANY

It won't be the in release patch but could be for future versions. The data from that port is has to be kept small so it won't overload external apps and some of those tags you mention are more than the just the raw data required.

If anybody else wants all those details please email us so we can get an indication on what is needed as the requests for external data has been very little since launch.
