Where on earth did you get that tie-up from ?  What was the hex code ?

The French Air Force retired their Mirage IIICs twenty years ago (the aircraft was a contemporary of the RAF's Lightning) and c/n 50 is in the museum at Savigny.

It wasn't 3F9923 50+35  C160 that was around yesterday was it as airliners.net don't like the + in the serial. Hence the 50 35. Just a thought.

The Transall sounds a lot more believable.

However 3F9923 does indeed come up in RadarBox with details for French Air Force Mirage IIIC "50 35", complete with a link to a photo of Russian Air Force Mi-8MTV "50 blue" !!

Come on AirNav, it's not rocket science, you know what you need to do to get the aircraft details and photos working properly ...

I got one photo of the transall and one of a japanese P-3J. I look forward to V3.0 being sorted then Airnav can get on with sorting all the database issues.

Now I'm even more confused - are you saying that users don't all get the same photos when they pick up the same aircraft ?

The problem is if the aircraft 'registration' is something daft like 234.  A search on airliners.net with such a meaningless registration is always going to fail, whether it is done manually or automatically by RB autopopulate.

Just try this one example to see the effect!

The problem is if the aircraft 'registration' is something daft like 234.  A search on airliners.net with such a meaningless registration is always going to fail, whether it is done manually or automatically by RB autopopulate.

That's precisely my point - the RadarBox server ignores the fact that it already has a hex code by the time it does the photo lookup and hence knows the type, and probably the operator, as well as the 'reg'.

So instead of searching airliners.net for a photo of the aircraft it has already identified, say 'French Air Force Mirage F1 234' for example, instead the AirNav server does a totally random search based solely on the serial, and not only does it display a photo of the first '234' that it comes across, whether or not it bears any relation to the already-identified aircraft, it even populates the database with details which could be for a completely unrelated aircraft.

As I said in a previous post, AirNav have said that once V3.0 has settled down they will be looking at better ways of doing the above.  I hope we don't have too long to wait.
