database trouble
« on: April 10, 2009, 02:35:51 PM »
I've picked up 2 German C-160d aircraft today and they show up as French Mirage apart from the AT, I have entered the correct details in DB explorer and turned off the process h/w flights and turned it back on only to see the aircraft show as German AF then repopulate as the original French AF mirage.
3F9956 50+86
3F993E 50+62
Any ideas? tried 3 times today to change details always same result.

Just altered details again shut down explorere and then shut down RB switched on everything found aircraft showing as GAF c160 when photo requests complete aircraft now showing as FAF mirage with c160 AT label.

Enter some text in the LK comment this will force it not to repopulate it.

Besty,

Just confirm exactly what the problem is, is it the Thumbnail pictures that are showing the wrong aircraft, or/and the big picture on Airliners.net when you click on the Thumbnail?

Are the details in the aircraft list in MyFlights correct?

I know that we've had problems before with the photo lookup with these GAF aircraft due to the "+" in the registration.

Must be the photo problem I've done as Support suggested and see if that does the trick. I prefer to use the + in the GAF reg. I know it causes some trouble with the photos.
No thumbnail picture at all just wrong details, apart from C160 and MS when try to populate it returns to FAF details.
Thanks for the quick replies.

Looking at my NavData.db3 and MyLog, I've got similar records - note that the Mirage record in NavData doesn't have a "+" in the registration.

Also, the records in MyLog don't have the "+" either, and 2 of those show as Mirages.

Turned off Process Hardware flights,
Do not normally process Network data.
Then I replaced the data for these aircraft in the Database, including data in the LK field, Modified the similar data on the MyLog screen.
Enabled Process Hardware flights.
Data was over written by French Mirage data.
No Photograph available to display......
Only run with 1 Photograph here.

What is going on??

OK, fixed it in my database.

- Looked up each of my C160's in the GAS manual search

- Corrected the details in NavData.db3, and deleted the links to the big pictures in fields PT - LK - PT2 - LK2

- Opened MyLog and deleted the incorrect information

- Run Populate in MyLog, and everything looks OK

I don't have any Thumbnail pictures for these aircraft, but then a search for the registration in airliners.net with the "+" in the reg doesn't give any sensible hits, so I wouldn't expect any thumbnails or links to big pictures.

In fact, if you look at all the GAF Transall's in airliners.net, the registrations are listed without he "+"

http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?aircraft_genericsearch=&airlinesearch=&countrysearch=Germany&specialsearch=military&daterange=&keywords=c160&range=&sort_order=datestamp+desc&page_limit=15&thumbnails=

Like:

5010
5106
5111
5034

But do a photo search for 510 etc and you get EVERY aircraft with 5010 in any part of the description :-(

For sure, it's the "+" causing the problem again!

You can download the thumbnails manually - if you do a search for Germany - Military Aircraft - and 5010 as the keyword.  Then put the link to the big picture in LK using Database Explorer.

Just depends how much time you want to spend I guess.......

HI guys I got these two aircraft today also. On my database I have started but not yet completed (it's an onerous task) removing the + for German Aircraft.

For 5086 I got a nice Transall shot and a USAF Orion for the second pic. For 5062 I got what look like Transall shots, one of  a close up of the undercarriage and pic two a cockpit shot.

Certainly without the + at least I got some correct information.

Enter some text in the LK comment this will force it not to repopulate it.

Doesn’t seem to work with the ones with no pictures.
PT - LK - PT2 - LK2 fill-in the blank method.

This problem is not going to go away while the populate system runs as it does at the moment. This is because as I understand it reading about autopopulate in the help menu. It works like this.

From examples picked up today

Radar box picks up a mode-s A5D4AA  - searches database - nothing known - then searches AIRNAV Server database? - nothing known - then searches GAS Database - N475LC GLF4 (Operator) = L-3 is LLC - then searches Airnet for photo - dowloads photo and repopulates with info from Airnet = N475LC GLF4 Untitled (Starflite International).

The operator/owner quoted by GAS is correct to the FAA registry (Link below) but is overwritten by info from Airnet.

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_inquiry.asp  (type in 475LC)

The above is how I understand the populate system works if I am wrong can some one explain it to me properly.

Example 2 military

2 Aircraft with the serial 5105

3F9985 51+05 C160 Germany -Air Force
498426 5105 CL60 Czech Republic - Air Force

If you search GAS by registration for above it provides correct details for both above

Airnet does not recognise the + symbol in the registration and if you search for 5105 you get 120 photos to view (several of the CL60  but only 1 of the C160 the rest are a mix of aircraft with 5105 as part of C/N or sq'n codes or line No's).

A search by HEX/mode-s will bring up the right aircraft but a earch by registration it is only practical for non numeric registrations. Maybe if we ask Airnet nicely to add mode-s hex codes to the photo's as a search option. (It would be nice but I can't see it happening). Or to to have photographs on the GAS site then you would achieve some sort of comonality and consistancy in information.

So until AIRNAV make it possible to turn off photo download this will always be a problem with auto populate.

Is it possible AIRNAV to download the photo without writing info to the database as this would also help with the problem of untitled appearing in the AC box in database.

I'm pretty sure Radarbox only ever gets data from the Airnav servers.  It's the Airnav servers that do the lookups at GAS and airliners.net.  So, a simple change to the process that runs on the Airnav server(s) to ignore any data that contains the word "untitled" would fix this.

Just had 50+73 C-160D on the box populated as 50 73 Mirage France -Air Force.

So Manually downloaded pic of 5073 from airliners.net and saved in photo's as 50+73
Went into database explorer and found 50 73 modified back to 50+73, C160, Transall C-160D, Luftwaffe LTG-62, deleted info in PT, LK, PT2 and LK2.

Repeated the same for Mylog then did a populate in mylog it said updating 147 photo's etc...

When it had completed checked Database Explorer and Mylog all info intact as manually input. I'll wait now and see if I catch him on the return trip and let you know what happens.

50+73 on its way back now, details still correct after manually downloading the pic for this aircraft. not linked to pic but actually downloaded into photo folder. So problem seems to be linked to the downloading of pics when populating.
