Hi Gary from my home position at about 105 I've nothing really down to sea level at H/pool then round towards 150 I go over the top of the Cleveland Hills. It's a bit of both, I'll do  a polar diagram with the pre amp disabled to give you a comparison if you want.

I've started the new polar diagram for comparison, give me 24 hours or so to get a good plot.

Stuart,

Thank you for the info and look forward to the shot without the preamp on.  Question:  I take it if the Bias-T is unpowered it acts as a DC Block still?

Gary I'm not sure about that but I'm sure someone on here will know. The aerial I bought has a dc short across the n type connector too so I think that helps.

Polar diagram looking smaller but not too bad so far.

hi Gary,
Here is the polar diagram with the preamp bypassed, it looks to me that the preamp is in fact doing a good job of boosting my signal.

hope you find it useful

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for taking the time to do this.  Interesting result, but leaves the question of; is it compensating for the coax length or does it pull in all that extra mileage (rhetorical question so no need to answer).  Looks like I may have to stage my approach to this.

Regards

g
if it helps with the wimo system when my pre-amp went down i noticed virtually no difference with my polar ring possibly 10-15miles in difference but the message count and aircraft list was no sig difference
