« on: March 01, 2009, 08:43:44 AM »
Hi

Has anyone any experience of using this antenna please ?

I was thinking of buying one if as claimed it is much better than the one supplied with
the ANRB

Thanks
John

I bought one from AOR, I'm using it as a base aerial at the moment the reception is great.  I't's loft mounted so obviously it's restricted by the roof and chimney but it's still very good.

Stuart,

Would you please make the polar diagram a lighter colour. My eysight is more Clark Kent than Superman these days.

I am not at home at the moment but when I return on Monday an MD1105 will have been delivered, I will let you know the difference on Tuesday if you can wait that long.

It would be a good idea to order this: http://www.aoruk.com/proddetail.asp?prod=sbs%2Dsma%2Dbnc&cat=23 with the antenna.

John,

I have the MD-1100-A which is about 2dB less on gain than the 1105. I took it out on my car to RAF Mildenhall on Thursday. Here's a polar diagram developed after just an hour.

Tom I've changed to polar diagram for you to the lighter colour.  It looked ok on my screen but a bit nothing on the forum.

Thanks, Stuart. I can see it now. It certainly looks to have a bit more gain than the 1100.

Glad the Radar-Rama is working for some - mine was missing srews, clamps, and still had metal shavings from the factory in the bag. After less than a month I found the screws rusted (in southern California USA where it had not rained in six months) and the ground plane stubs weather seals are just rubbish.

The paint started flaking off of the center aerial too - at this point I replaced it with the DPD Productions antenna here in the US and coverage was much better.

Maybe I just got a bad RadarRama but it sure looks and feels very poorly made.

John,

Whilst I'm new to the RB forum - I have been working with the SBS-1 for some time. Whilst overall RB is in my opinion better than SBS for a whole number of reasons - I prefer the aerial  (MD1105) that comes with SBS to the standard twig from RB. Feels more solid, thicker cable and a better range if indoors.
Best of both worlds I think is RB with a 1105 aerial.
Just my opinion John - hope this helps

DAFO1711: you can always connect your default SBS-1 antenna to RadarBox using a BNC (I believe SBS uses BNC) to SMA adaptor which costs less than 5 GBP.

I use the same setup the extra two metres of cable on the MyDel come in useful.
