Old Airnav RB thru to New Airnav RB 2009
« on: January 09, 2009, 06:13:44 PM »
Hi all.

I have been off air for some time and sold my RB on to a friend as i lost interest a bit.
Having said that, i have realy missed it as a hobby, so i am tempted to buy another RB 2009.

Would i be correct in thinking that the hardware hasn't changed at all since the first version and that realy it is only the software that has changed?

I would assume it's just the software that's changed?
Many thanks.  Any input about the RB2009 would be appreciated before i decide to buy one.

And is it still better than the alternative unit which seem to have shrunk.

Thank you
Tony in Rotherham

From what I've seen here from the AirNav contributors, there have been few changes, if any, to the hardware. The latest Radarboxes come with firmware that has a different version number, but is also claimed to be effectively unchanged. The driver version number has changed at least once, there may be another update to that as there is a later version on the FTDI site, it would be part of a new software release I assume.

There have been about 8 software releases, the latest from August 2008, and it was mentioned that the 2.1 release is expected late this month.

All the above is correct. Nothing has changed in terms of hardware, a lot has changed in terms of software.

@AirNav Developement
Thanks.  I just wanted to check.  I really didn't want to buy old stock as i guess many outlets will be selling the old stock and advertising it as new stock.

Is there any changes in the packaging for the 2009 version?
Regards
Tony

AFAIK, there's a 2009 sticker on the packaging.

Well that's something.  I just didn't want old stock sold at a new price if you see what i mean.
Thanks

Since all that has changed is software that you can download from Airnav's web site, it isn't "old" stock, merely stock without the latest software on the CD in the box.

My 1st is from 2007, my second is end of 2009 / early 2010. No differences between them at all. Except the already mentioned Information in this thread.

Besides that the blue LED of the 2007 Box is flashing while connected and Running/receiving Data and the Blue LED of the 2009/2010 is not.

Has anything changed hardware wise since then to now ?

We're told that the static protection has been improved since the original boxes shipped.

I'm afraid I don't know when that change took place, or how you can tell from a serial number which type of box you have, but somebody will be able to help I'm sure.

RobinB,

Only a slight change was made to improve static bleeding. http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=2759.0

Though thats a rare event so you should be fine and your covered either way.
