USB Extenders
« on: August 18, 2007, 03:07:48 PM »
Found reference in a search of the Forum and am wondering if this would be a good way to have the supplied antenna moved closer to the outside of my house. My original plan was to use my discone antenna but it does not work (no messages) and I would like to run RB all day. Will a USB Extender allow me to run the computer at one end of the house and have the RB and antenna at the other end?  75 feet would be the distance.

TIA

Hi Jetcos,

USB extenders sometimes has mixed results. In some cases they work perfectly but some people have interference over the wires over such a distance and they end up loosing there USB connection and having to restart RadarBox.

Hope that helps.

What we could do with is the ability to either have an ethernet connection, or better still a wireless connection between the RadarBox and thwe PC - now that is something for AirNav to think about

I use the Maplin USB extender which allows you to use up to 45m Cat 5 network cable.  It works a treat, although this isn't available from Maplin any more. The power for RadarBox is provided by the extender. There are other versions out there if you do a Google search.

Here is the result of a quick Goole search:

I bought a USB extender and run cable to the RB that let's me put the antenna outside for better signals. I went to the USB and de-selected the option to turn off the USB port to save power. Still find the USB connection is off and I have to disconnect and re-connect the plugs. Any suggestions on keeping it going?

TIA

Seems to last 4-5 hours, hard to say as I haven't checked on the times (from first message to last received) but will try to figure it out.

Will this work with RB?  --Belkin USB Wireless Hub

http://cgi.ebay.com/Belkin-USB-Wireless-Hub-Model-F5U303-NEW_W0QQitemZ160208964387QQihZ006QQcategoryZ31495QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yes it will but I get drop outs from time to time. Not sure if it is wireless range or limited USB functionality
