Hi all

I had a visit from a relative who was an Air Traffic Controller at West Drayton, and who previously had arranged for me to have an excellent day there using their spare radar suite, no really I'll never forget the experience. I am sure it was this experience that when I first saw the  Airnav Radarbox I knew it was for me. Anyhow I couldn't wait to let him see the Airnav in operation and see what he thought of it.

He was very impressed with the acuracy of the system and spent a good hour looking over it. He scrolled down to "sectors" he had worked on and felt this was a very good representation of what he saw at "work". If anything he felt from his time the Airnav was supplying more information than was available to him. He was impressed with all the aspects of the system. As well as the screen he liked the interface area representing the flight strips he had to slide in and out of a wooden structure beside the radar screen. I wouldn't be surprised if one is purchased as he looked very content in front of the screen.

Well done Airnav as I feel this is worthy praise of this fantastic piece of kit and from a source who has a solid knowledge and is able to make a reasoned opinion.

Lovely to hear.

Customers take note that you get to see more information (pictures, weather, network and the list goes on) than even pros get to see.

All we need is the flight plan and everyone on ADS-B and they might as well use RadarBox in West Drayton :)

I think you mean Swanwick now rather than West Drayton. 

There is no doubt as a new user that in my opinion the Radar Box is an excellent product, however the "real system" as I tested today still has one or two niceties on it which just gives it the edge.  :)

No I meant West Drayton, where I visited,  he was based there and retired as Swanick was opening.

I remember my first visit to West Drayton - it looked like the Starship Enterprise.  But compare that with Swanwick and it's amazing what difference a few years makes - OK 25 years!

yes, I am, Been in AC at Swanwick since the night it opened (D Watch, Now Red Watch) and at West Drayton for 13 years prior to that.

Great place to work, bit like a busmans holiday though, watching the screens all day long and then going home to switch the box on. I live about 5NM SE SAM VOR so get to see some interesting overflights.

I was down at Swanwick the other day for a meeting.  First time I've seen TC in operation, complete with the Mode S crew selected level showing - very impressive.

Oh yes, very easy to do :-)

See this in the FAQ - just read RadarBox 200* as 2009

The outline files are the same format as those for the SBS-1, so you can use the Airspace download from this site:

You probably don't need them all, just use those you want.
