New feature: Route Data on Network Flights
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:10:22 PM »
We are happy to announce we finished the implementation of the automatic retrieval of route information (origin and destination airports) for all network flights.
This has been an old request from our users and we finally added that feature to our central server. From now on all network flights, when processed by our server, will have their origin/destination airports received (if available from the sources we get this data from).

In the meanwhile we have also finished the implementation of a brand new more robust flight information system. Because of this we totally cleaned our flight data table forcing all new flight numbers to be retrieved from our server. So expect the rate of valid origin/destinations to increase during the next days.

Hope you enjoy this new feature.

Adding to the previous post please note that the rate of appearance of origin/destination information will be gradual as we have emptied our route info table. Taking in account the architecture of the system, the database on the central Network Server will be updated every 24 hours so only day after day you will see an increase. In 1 week we expect to have the system 100% stabilized and providing data for all available flights.

Hi Dev and thanks - sounds great!

I think I'm already seeing an effect in that some network flights are showing a dash in the Route column - I presume that's where a lookup has produced no result.

Thanks for your email: as a curiosity our network server is now processing over 100 million ADS-B messages per day!

We expect this to increase to 1 billion in 1 year. The system is now widely tested, stable, redundant and accurate. As usual send us any suggestions you may have.

RodBearden: affirm. During the next 2 to 3 days while the database gets populated again you will see many flights without info. But after that more and more flight info will appear.

Blimey, that's a bit smartish - a vast improvement on the 'end of the year' forecast!
I shall look forward to playing.  Thanks, Airnav - full of surprises.

Can you just confirm something for me - as I don't particularly want to download photos, if I turn off that feature, will it affect the regular population of my database?  I seem to remember reading somewhere recently (in the forum) that someone was having a problem doing the same thing.

We can confirm that happens and it is client/software related.
It is a known bug and it on our to-do list.

There are bugs/problems/suggestions like this one we have just finished to implement that require only server programming. All the other problems that require software changes will be corrected when V2.1 comes out.

As explained above it will take 2 to 3 days to start having results. We had to empty our flight number database to implement this feature.
