Mark,

All you need is a simple adaptor - see this FAQ:

Use of connector/adapter does increase the physical load on the socket and PCB connections

As long as you don't mistreat the connection, there isn't a problem - at least there isn't with my RadarBox 16 months on :-)

The connetors are small and not heavy so any affect is minimal.

I agree but any flexing of the lead puts an increased physical load onto the connector/pcb joint, due to the increased leverage length, personally I'd rather use a patch lead.

As a newbie I have been following the discussion about BNC to SMA adaptors.  Today I went to my local Maplin store to buy a suitable adaptor, the only item they stock in this range - Part No: RS85G -  is not suitable as the SMA part of the item is reversed in that the centre contact is a socket not a pin the outer contact is a nut which is the correct configuration.

I can't find a supplier in this country.  Any suggestion please.

Hello mate,

I am a newbie too, of about a month or so now. I got my adapter from http://www.rocketradio.co.uk/sma-male-plug-to-bnc-female-jack-interseries-adaptor-945-p.asp when I bought my Radarbox

Cheers

Andy

I'm surprised, as the description is correct.  Also, only the male part of an SMA connector has the "nut" on it, the female part is just threaded - as on the back of the RadarBox hardware. Also, the Maplin FAQ says:

Q) Is this type of connector suitable for a Icom IC-R5 scanner   - K Taylor

A) Yes it is.

And my adaptor fits my Icom scanner and my Yaesu handheld with SMA connectors too!

Are you sure that you were looking at the right end :-)

The link below goes to the Maplin RS85G part.

Below: This is what a BNC male to SMA male plug would look like - this definitely wouldn't fit.

PUXING,WEIERWEI AND ANY OTHE RADIO

Thanks for your reply.  I agree that the desription is correct but the units I looked at in the Maplin store definitley had a reversed centre contact on the SMA end.  I looked at the 4 items they had in stock and they were all the same.

Cheers, John
