Record for Non ADS B a/c
« on: September 28, 2008, 03:00:07 PM »
I have been trying to compare Radar box to the"other"one

It is difficult to see who is better as they both seem to be the same for ADS B aircraft who broadcast position. That is easily checked and is a near draw

The problem comes with non position aircraft.

Example
G-SASA the local Medivac helicopter

only information from Radarbox is First Time 2008/08/01 00:10:01 Last Time 2008/09/28 15:52:00

The "other"one gives ALL the times and dates seen of G-SASA if you use SBS explorer or use a SQL query.

Thus it would be good in an update to be able to have these aircraft in the Daily log and All their flights as G-SASA can have more than one a day

Also I have found the same problem as Tarbat the Loganair flights do not sem to be getting their flight numbers "translated" which the "other" one does

Apart from that I like Radarbox  as it is all in one and does not need addons

If this "problem" is already known and being addressed I apologise

It is being looked at. It wasn't mentioned to us earlier when we created the MyLog and only a few customers have asked for the extra tracking on non ADS-B aircraft and we are looking into adding it.

Thanks for that

It will enable a true comparison of the 2 units

Not really :) , RB does far many things that SBS doesn't do, try asking them to catch up. Its not a even playing field as they say.

I venture to suggest that that's not strictly true.

As I understand it, they are both bog standard ADS-B receivers, and as such do exactly the same thing. (Although now the SBS has integrated networking capability).

The significant difference is in the bundled and integrated software supplied as part of the RadarBox package, which probably gives it the edge in terms of simplicity of use.  That's not to say that the purists don't want bespoke custom software for their receiver - many of them do.

I'm sure most users make their respective purchases having done considerable research into the pros and cons of each, and are generally happy in their selection.
Some, however, have jumped both ways.  Horses for courses.

I'm quite happy, in general, with my RadarBox and wouldn't consider a jump in the other direction.  However, for all it's advertised merits it still has a way to go.

The other big difference in RadarBox's favour, is the apparent willingness of the developers to consider refining the way in which the software operates, and even if they don't get it right first time, the development continues, largely steered by those of us who use it.

Which DOES make it a completely different animal...

Not to mention the big difference is the RadarBox network which allows you to see any other ADS-B aircraft picked up by internet connected Radar Boxes across the world.

We broke the record today (as we do every 2 weeks) of having 193 RadarBox stations online on the network.
