A few questions

Considering a purchase, but:

1. When using ACARS will aircraft that give position data plot on the RadarBox map as in AirNav Suite? If so, is the time-out for acars plots as per the default or separate? Is ACARS data included in the network sharing option?

2. Will non ADS-B aircraft be picked up and displayed in the list, such as light aircraft with mode-S? Will the altitude be displayed for these aircraft?

3. I can't see this in the screenshots or in the manual, would an altitude converter be implemented, so that the true altitude of aircraft below transition altitude is shown? This would involve the user entering the local pressure, or it could be grabbed from a local weather report online. If the pressure is unusually high or low the altitudes are up to 800 feet out, without this conversion.

4. Can the radar tags be user-edited?  they display far too much data for my liking.

5. The supplied antenna, how long is the cable and how is it connected to the box?

Hi JSI,

1.) No, the ACARS Data is just added to table and you can view it in terms of Flights and match it up to any aircraft you are tracking using ADS-B. The network sharing option is only for data picked by RadarBox so no acars.

2.) Yes Mode-S are picked up and displayed in the list. Altitude data is not shown.

3.) Intresting feature, this is not included in RadarBox but if its possible to work out the true altitude below transition. I will pass it on as features to be added :)

4.) They can't at present, again will note this for future features.

One more thing, I've noticed the aircraft on the radar display have a predicted leader line, can this be switched off? I'd much rather see an historical trace behind the aircraft.

That's a bit suprising.  Is this a technical limitation of the Radarbox, or something that could be added in the future.  As someone living in a remote location surrounded by RAF aircraft that mostly transmit Mode-S with altitude, that's an important feature.

The supplied antenna is connected to RadarBox by a SMA connector and the cable is 3 metres long. Antenna Gain: 3dBi.

We are looking to add Mode-S altitude in the future, will keep you posted about that.

You can purchase SMA Antenna Extension Cables so the length can in theory be unlimited. However best to keep length less than 10 metres otherwise signal may degrade through the cable before it gets to the RadarBox.

I would like to ask if an external antenna of 100mhz-2ghz range, will be ok for the radar. (the frequency that is used is 1090mhz...is that right?).
Also I was ready to buy SBS-1 Virtual Radar from Kinetik untill I saw this product. (much better price). Any advantages or disadvantages from SBS? (except the network feature)

You can use the antenna you describe however make sure you keep the cable length as short as possible for best results.

You say it is a world first I take it that you are not counting Open ATC which is a free non subscription network for the SBS-1 see http://www.openatc.com/

you can't actually view the network data in Basestation hence we believe its not "full" sharing.
