AirNav RadarBox 2009 (version 2.0) RELEASED
« on: August 19, 2008, 03:12:20 PM »
The day everyone has been waiting for has arrived.

Welcome to the most advanced ADS-B flight tracking application ever developed, AirNav RadarBox 2009 (also known as version 2.0). This is a major release meaning lots of features were added.

This upgrade is free to all existing users.

Despite the enormous success of the AirNav RadarBox ADS-B receiver that now entirely dominates this market, AirNav Systems never stopped the development: at AirNav Systems work will never stop.

Upgrade Download Link (for users with version 1.5):
http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/anrb/anrbupgrade15to20.exe
(it will copy to your existing RB2008 folder all relevant files)

Full Version Download Link:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/anrb/anrb20setup.exe

Screen Shot (including a background NASA generated satellite photo of the UK):

We want to be an open minded company, happy to receive and implement user suggestions and always looking for improvements.
The degree of confidence and daily user interaction shown by more than 1000 AirNav Systems forum users shows it all.
Our forum is the place where our developers talk directly to the customers getting ideas and motivation for improvements.

A special thank you to all the users suggestions and to the team that helped us finishing this new version.

Congratulation on a great new version.  Some great new features!

Quick question.  Is this release identical to the final beta released late last night?  Will save me downloading/installing again.  Thanks.

Well done to AirNav!

Especially as the changes are from user requests.

This proves that AirNav is a company willing to listen to its customers and act upon what it hears.

Three cheers to all those involved.

Having had a quick play, it looks very good.  One disappointment (for me, anyway) is the number of flights which still don't show departure/destination airfields.  I was under the impression that access to new databases would resolve this in the new version.  I notice that this is always the case with alphanumeric callsigns (eg: EZY236W), and often the case with straight numeric callsigns (eg: RYR6426).  On balance, I would suggest that there is no discernible difference in this area between this and the last versions.

When you (AirNav) outlined the improvements in this area in a number of threads,  I made a point of asking whether the improvements would also reflect in alphanumeric callsigns, but never had a specific answer.

I don't mean to nit-pick, as a lot of work has obviously gone into the new version, but this was an area of particular interest to me.

Also, how do I download a satellite image for France?  There doesn't seem to be one available.

Otherwise, thanks for all your efforts.

Regarding the satellite images: all the world is covered. Just go to the maps menu, satellite layer, download.

Regarding alphanumeric flight numbers: do you have a list with that information? Currently that information is not available in real-time outside EuroControl servers (with flight plan data). If you have such a list we would import it to our servers immediately.

Deadcalm,

If you are not seeing routes for "normall" Flight IDs then its simply because our database does not have every single route. You should be able to check your route database and see that its being updated. However as Development says EuroControl is the only one with this data and they won't release it. We are doing the best we can.

Regarding alphanumeric flight numbers, these cause a great of deal of issue as they do not match the offical flight plan data we might have and also there isn't a set rule in how to go from to another. We can look into this for future versions however the software already provides a great leap.

Having had a quick play, it looks very good.  One disappointment (for me, anyway) is the number of flights which still don't show departure/destination airfields.

If you look at the routes table in Database Explorer, you can see the new routes marked in the CH column by the date that they were autopopulated.

Network is fine here, as its a new version you may need to give permissions again via your firewall for it.

Also, how do I download a satellite image for France?  There doesn't seem to be one available.

- Set up your ordinary map view of the bit of France that you want

- Click the new Satellite button on the toolbar (yellow satellite on a black background)

- Rather than accepting the name offered, type in Central France or whatever you like

- Click Save

- Your new map is now available in the Satellite drop-down list.

Also, a top-tip for clearing the satellite map:

- Scroll the map to a random bit of sea that you are never going to want to watch

- Zoom in to the maximum close up possible

- Click the yellow Satellite button

- Replace the offered name with Clear Layer or something like that (if you want this "map" to appear at the top of the list, you can save it as _Clear Layer)

- Click the Save Button

- Clear Layer appears in your satellite drop-down list

- To get rid of a displayed satellite map, just use the Clear Layer map, which loads a very small satellite layer in the middle of nowhere :-)

OK, thanks, Airnav & Allocator.  I wasn't having a go, but I was probably a little unsure about what to expect regarding the routes - which is why I wanted to get some factual feedback before the new version was released.

As far as the satellite download is concerned, I think I've sussed it - I was expecting France to be in the list!  Got it now, thanks.
