Police, Ambulance Air Support Aircraft Reg's
« on: August 02, 2008, 01:15:24 PM »
Hi All,

In response to GlynH's post regarding interesting aircraft contacts with his RB, (I know Glyn asked for me to share them with him) &  thought I would post all the Police Air Support Units & Air Ambulance aircraft registrations for the UK for everyone to check out.

They are as up-to-date as I can be, although I have not had hits with all the aircraft listed due to limitations with the range I have at this present time.

Please feel free to correct any errors that I have made. Hope you will find these useful?

Enjoy!

Hi - useful list - thanks!

Here are some additions - first, G-NMID is owned by the Derbyshire Constabulary.

Two that I see a lot up here in Lancashire:

G-LASU - Lancashire Constabulary Eurocopter EC135 T2
G-CHEZ - Cheshire Police Authority - Pilatus Britten-Norman BN2B-20

Do you know about G-INFO: www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=search - just type "police" or "ambulance" into the Owner box and see what you get! You even get the Mode-S in binary!

Hi Rod,

Appreciate the weblink to the G-INFO, not seen that before could prove very useful.

Please feel free to add anything I've missed. It's a shame that most of the Police / Ambulance Helo's don't transmit the Mode-S data. But then saying that, it wouldn't be good for the crooks to know where the Police were etc, lol.

Cheers,

SteveR

Two that I see a lot up here in Lancashire:

G-LASU - Lancashire Constabulary Eurocopter EC135 T2

Rod

For anyone elses info, the callsign used to its HQ is ON21 (Oscar November 21)
Manchesters being I99 (India 99)

Not sure if Cumbria has its own Police Helecopter, but ON21 has been known to be active north of Lancs.

Have picked up the Mode S for G-ESEX, but have not picked up any for the Sussex Police or Kent air ambulance, even though they have flown over my house and registrations confirmed visually.

Hi tommyg,

I guess nothing may have been picked up yet due to maybe the Sussex Police or Kent Air Ambulance not transmitting a Mode-S signal. This would tie in with the fact that you are able to visually see the aircraft in question, st the time but your RB isn't.

Another possibility could be the line of sight of your RB attenna. I seem to have a similar sort of problem which is this; I live on the flight paths to London City Airport & Biggin Hill, there must be at least a hundred or so flights that pass me overhead, virtually all I can see visually & even read the aircraft reg's as they pass over my house. Many seem to be private/business jets, but what is strange is the fact that many do not show up on my RB as they pass overhead, which I find strange.

Again either a good few don't transmit Mode-S data or my RB antenna is not picking anything up till the aircraft has a better line of sight to recieve the signal.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for posting & sharing guys,

Here is another one from my original list that doesn't seem to be here;

4010AC   G-EMID   Eurocopter EC-135             East Midlands Police

This is the one I see flagged most frequently from My Alerts but annoyingly I don't see a way of checking the total amount of times it has been logged as there is only one entry for G-EMID in MyLog and no details shown in Flights for Selected Aircraft' :-(

I can scroll through the Alert Log for each session only but then when you exit & restart the program it starts afresh.

What happens to the Alert Log - is there no history retained?

I see an empty folder C:\Program Files\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox 2008\Log...

Regards,
-=Glyn=-

PS. Congratulations Hero! ;^)

I motice that many of the Police / Air Ambulance helicopters are owned/maintained by Bond Air Services.

A quick look through MyLog shows a few more not mentioned here;

G-HWAA     Gloucestershire Air Ambulance?
G-WAAS     Swansea Air Ambulance?
G-BZRS     References Bournemouth & Scotland?

Lots more here;

Does anybody know where to find details of the Search and Rescue Sea King Helecopters?

I live the in Lakes and they are frequently passing over to rescue walkers stranded on the tops.

Some more for the list:

G-WMAO West Midlands Police  - Eurocopter EC-135P-2+
G-EMAA County Air Ambulance (East Mids) - Eurocopter EC-135T-2
G-MEDS Warwickshire and Nothamptonshire Air Ambulance - Agusta A-109E Power
G-WNAA Warwickshire and Nothamptonshire Air Ambulance - Agusta A-109E Power

I've never seen G-WNAA in my RB logs and haven't seen it over the house for a few weeks so not sure if it's still in operation.

Have also logged:

G-CHEY Air Medical - Piper PA-31T2-620 Cheyenne IIXL
G-PZAZ Airmed - Piper PA-31-350 Navajo Chieftain
HB-JRB Rega - Swiss Air Ambulance - Canadair CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604
OE-GPS Tyrol Air Ambulance - Cessna 550B Citation Bravo

G-HWAA mentioned above by GlynH is Hereford & Worcestershire Air Ambulance - Eurocopter EC-135T-2

After the unfortunate mid air collision near Baginton the other weekend G-WMAO, G-MEDS and G-BDIJ were all in attendance. Even at low altitude BDIJ was communicating back to base on the search and rescue frequency of 123.1 which I assume was done through a repeater network.
