Problems with Flightstick 978 Driver Installation
« on: May 26, 2020, 07:00:38 PM »
For what ever reason, my Windows 10 Intel 5  PC identifies the dongle as a usb keyboard device.  It will not let me update the driver to the ones provided on the support site.  I have followed suggestions from several threads on here to no avail.  I have Airnav software installed in its default location. I have rebooted the pc several times.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the dongle over 100 times with no success.   Does anyone have a constructive suggestion as  to how to fix this problem.  I used to run the older 1080 dongle with no problem.  But this has me perplexed.  Thanks in advance for any help in solving this as I hate to have thrown away 70 bucks on the dongle and antenna.

When you state default location do you mean the recommended c:\Airnav or program files

I would suggest that you speak to [email protected] and ask their assistance

Yes, default location. And support got  me running.  I will post their response here to help any others having the same problem.

1.) Restart your machine. Ensure nothing is running and connect the FlightStick
2.) Download the Zagdig software from
https://github.com/pbatard/libwdi/releases/download/b721/zadig-2.4.exe

3.) Run the zadig-2.4.exe in Admin mode.

Open the Zadig executable and choose "Bluk-In, Interface (Interface 0)". If no device is shown select Options -> List all devices and see if appears (it will be RTL382..). In any case, it must shown at least "1 device found".

The driver to be selected is WinUSB on the selection below and then click install driver/replace driver.

Once driver is installed/replaced close the software and restart your machine.
Once the machine reboots then start RadarBox and hopefully it would have connected fine.
This worked and dongle is now showing  green as connected, altho it has yet to get a single a/c in my area of North Central Iowa.

I never had luck with Airnav flightstick so I bought FLIGHTAWARE's PRO STICK and it worked right out of the box . It displays MANY planes along with using my Radarbox V6.02.003 software.

Good luck!

I have
  • Generic DVB-T (Black color)
  • Flightaware ProStick (Orange color)
  • Flightaware ProStick + (Blue color)
  • Radarbox24 FlightStick (Green color)

ALL above work without any hassle on:
  • Raspberry Pi with dump1090-mutability/dump1090-fa
  • Windows Desktop with AiNav Windows software ver 6.02.003 with driver ZADIG
