Suggestion for RB24
« on: July 08, 2017, 04:07:00 PM »
I have observed that the coverage of some receivers in Colombia and Ecuador is poor

I recommend sending additional 1090 filters

There is a big interference problem

The antenna must be used without the radials

Is the solution 100%

I had the same problem and found the solution

In urban locations, Filters are now necessary due to tremendous increase in Cell Phone network. Some of the Cell Phone frequencies are close to 1090 MHz, and interfere and reduce performance of ADS-B system.

I dont have ComStation, AirNav antenna etc.
I use Raspberry Pi, DVB-T, commercial & DIY antennas, and filter. All these I have purchased from ebay and amazon.

My system's performance reduced when I replaced my low gain (2 dBi) DIY antenna by a high gain commercial antenna.

Only after adding a filter (between commercial antenna and receiver DVB-T), the performance improved.

.

Now I use commercial antenna with Filter, and DIY antenna without Filter.

System #1:
RPi + generic DVB-T + DIY antenna

System#2
RPi + Flightaware ProStick (dvb-t with integral LNA) + Flightaware Filter + Flaightaware Antenna.

The RB24 internal filter is not doing the job
The same is happening with the RB24 receivers

Excellent explanation friend abcd567

The RB24 does not come with a filter as standard either internally or externally.  An external filter would be sent however if it was considered that one is needed. A filter is only required for an environment which suffers from RF interference.

The user can easily determine RF Interference at his location by conducting an RF Scan as detailed in the following thread:

Do I Need A Filter?

By method describe in above thread, I have conducted RF Scan at my location, and results clearly show presence of strong GSM850 and E-GSM900 Cell/Mobile Signals, requiring addition of a Filter.
