Interface Guide
« on: March 29, 2008, 10:29:53 AM »
Hi there this is my first post to this forum and I must confess to you all that I am a radarbox "newbie".
I am looking for a detailed Interface Guide to assist someone like me who is interested in creating add-ons for radarbox. The standard user manual is very sparse when it comes to telling you about what ports are used for both inputs and outputs from the system. The basic XML format on 7879 is covered but understand that is only a subset of information that can be captured. I would also like to know the contents of the comma seperated fields that are used on the different ports. If such a guide does not exist then I would not mind creating one if I can compile the information from you guys with the knowledge. Another suggestion would be a detailed breakdown of the databases that are now offered with the system.
I am sure the knowledge is out there amongst all you experts it just needs to be brought together and documented.
Thanks and I look forward to hearing back from this forum :)

Welcome to the forum :-)

Just going out, so only a short reply at the moment.  See this thread reference the port out details.

http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=702.0

In summary, port 7879 is an AirNav format

Port 30003 (or port 40004 if port 30003 is already in use) is work in progress, so may change.

Hi Allocator thanks for that quick reply, I had read through those threads and it looks like 30003 is the port info I will need to use. I appreciate it is work in progress but is there any info on the format that is currently produced (albeit that it may change).

Lastly can you confirm that both local and networked data a passed via this port or is it local data only.

many thanks

Port 30003 only outputs local data, not network data.

Run RadarBox and use the Capture Text option in Hyperterminal so you have some sample data.  You should be able to work out from the data lines what you are seeing.

Having had a quick look at the port 30003 data lines, this is my best guess at the data:

MSG - just a label
3 - This is the message type, all lines are MSG 3 at present
0 - ?
0 - ?
Mode S Code - e.g. 400928
0 - ?
Date - in the format 2008/03/27
Time - in the format 14:12:42.750
Date - don't know why this appears a second time
Time - another time field, identical to the earlier time
Flight ID - e.g. EZT945X
Altitude - in feet
Groundspeed - in knots
Heading - degrees magnetic (could be track rather than heading)
Latitude - in the form 52.5177, positive is North
longitude - in the form -1.9658, negative is West
Vertical rate - positive for climb, negative for descent
Squawk - four figure Mode 3 code between 0000-7777
0 - ?
0 - ?
0 - ?
0 - ?

Each data field in comma delimited and each data line has a CR+LF at the end.  For simple manipulation, it's very easy to import the captured txt file into Excel.

The output is designed to emulate the SBS-1 socket output (for compatibility with add-ons), so that would make the final 4 fields:

Alert
Emergency
SPI (squawk ident)
On-ground

HTH

Can anyone tell me...
Is there anyway to log networked data as well as local data using Radarbox, i.e. does port 7879 or 30003 report network data or only local data?
TIA
