Get Weather
« on: January 22, 2014, 11:04:47 AM »
Hi

I have two questions.

When I add a new airport code to the 'get weather' option the airport code is added to the drop down list, but when using the 'SmartView' it is not.

The METAR option works fine for my local airports, EGTE, EGDY, EGHH but the TAF is way out of date, surely they must be producing a current TAF?

Any answers?

Hi Keith,

I would suggest we use the long TAF varient as looking at various airports in the UK these are given by the application for various airports but some like EGTE for example are not, producing a short TAF instead.  Have a look at http://en.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/united-kingdom-ireland.php?icao=EGTE this suggests that the one for EGTE isnt produced.

I found the site by googling TAF EGHH, TAF EGPK, TAF EGKK etc

Thanks Alan.

EGDY and EGHH only produce a short TAF whereas EGGD for example only produce a long TAF.

Thanks for the pointer to the website.

Keith.

As a pointer airfields which are H24 even if they have a night jet ban will only publish a 24/30hr TAF. The majority of regional airfields which close overnight will only issue 9hr TAFS. 24hr TAFs are issued at 6hr intervals, 9hr TAFS at 3hr intervals.
