Alternative cable for Wimo external antena

Hi to all

Coud yanyone please provide alternative reference cable for Wimo antena ?

The Ecoflex cable included in Wimo’s Kit has large N-conectors that cannot pass through my wall cnx box (only BNC’s or smaller), so I must found an alternative cable that can easly support the amplified signal. wich one do you advise ?

RG58U / 50 Ohms
RG59U / 75 Ohms
RG134 / identical to the one supplied with ANRB

NO..NO...NO...These cables have too many losses that frequenzan 1090 Mhz.To R / B does  will 'no signal..The cable must  to be large...I made a big hole in the window

Thanks for your reply, I know about the strong possibility of loss of data, however at this moment I have an 11m of RG134 cable from outdoor ANRB original antena to the PC and it seems to work fine.

I live near LPPT and with this configuration I can pick up all arrival/departure/in flight aircraft until +/- 80 miles, but this is done with a normal reception, with the Wimo antena is diferent because the signal is amplified.

How to increase the whole for RG58U without too many damage on the wall ?
That's the only way I have to pass the Ecoflex cable indoor to the antena.

I would be grateful for you comment.

Carlos, I don't think anyone would try and drill a hole large enough to pass an "N" connector through a wall...

With my Wimo antenna, I cut off the "N" connector, drilled a hole just large enough for the cable through my 2' thick stone wall, and re-soldered the "N" connector back on to the cable.

That's the option I have to solve the problem, but this means a new N-connector to be resoldered back on the cable.
Can I do it with the same N-connector from Wimo antena ? It doesn't seems a easy work to do it...

It's not easy, because the cable and connector are a bit chunky, but I re-used the existing "N" connector - you just need a reasonably hot soldering iron, and spanners or pliers to undo the cable nut.  Failing that, new "N" connectors are relatively inexpensive and easy to acquire.  Either way, consensus suggests that using a lesser cable is a no-no.

Can you cut the cable 30 cm or so from the plug at the receiver end, then splice the cable, this might be easier than unsoldering the plug and resoldering it?

Thanks for sugestion it's a good idea, if well done there's no loss of signal.

I will try it if no better sugestion arrive.

Hi Carlos,

Splicing coaxial cable is not recommended as it introduces impedence mismatch and losses . The solderless 'N' plugs for Ecoflex cable are not too difficult to fit.

Olá Carlos,

I had exactly the same problem, even worse, i had my boxes mounted out-side (luckilly the algarve climate is user friendly) - but decided to pass the cable through the wall. Made the hole a bit bigger, took of the N-connectors off, which was much easier than expected, passed is and replaced the connecters, which was even easier. So yes, try it, definitely worth it.

Thanks for your comment, that's waht I'm going to do.
I have bought one male N-Connector, but it seems I need a special tool to place it.

I'm not sure if I can easly replace the original N-Connector from Wimo Ecoflex 10 cable.

In you case how you did it ? Any special detail to take care ?

The N-Connector I bought isn't easy to place, so I decided to order a new one from the SSB site.

What I did was I went to my local radio shop (where I bought both the cable and connector) and aked him to put it all together (had to pay for this, but think it was worth it). Than at home I took the "N" connector of, quite simple, passed it through the wall and just put it back together. Maybe I was lucky, but found it to be very simple.

Carlos, hope you manage, otherwise, I'll be in Lisbon next week-end (hopefully) and maybe can give you a hand.
