Alert emails are sent from the local PC. I see a little envelope and Norton email scanner popup when an alert gets sent.
I'm running Norton Protection Centre, which doesn't stop the alerts being emailed, although it does scan each alert email:

The fact that the email has a from address of
[email protected] may prevent the email being sent with some ISPs who require that email from addresses are for that ISP's domain.
