Nimrods scrapping on news, Harriers next?
« on: January 27, 2011, 08:50:46 PM »
What an absolute travesty and obscene crime against the British public and taxpayer.   What'll happen when there's no cover available for long-range SAR operations.   No doubt we'll end up buying more US a/c to replace them at some future date, and no doubt the Harriers will be afforded the same treatment, just to make sure they can never fly again.   One of the finest British inventions and aircraft.

Talk about absurdity, we've now got no fighter aircraft to fly from Invincible and Illustrious, and we'll carry on building new super aircraft carriers, for which we'll have no aircraft to fly from them - then to top it all, we'll be sharing the carriers with the French - anyone for timeshare?   Will that be done on week about, or daily - "It's our trainset today.   Oh bugger, we've no rolling stock to run on it".

What's happening to this once great country?   If terrorism is the great threat we've been told about for the last decade, where are our defences, oh, we scrapped them!   Talk about expecting our military and police to protect us and our way of life, blindfolded and both arms amputated at the shoulders.   It must make our valiant forces who are giving their lives, limbs and genitals feel sick to the pit of their stomachs - it feels that way to me!

Sorry folks, rant over.

We have had no fighter aircraft to fly from carriers since they withdrew the Sea Harrier. FRG7 and FRG9 have no radar and wouldn't stand a chance against real fighters.

Thanks for that Alex, situation's even worse then!  So it was the GR7s that were withdrawn in December?
