Radarbox Antenna and Scanner antenna

Hi all,

I have finally managed to persuade my better half to authorise! the purchase of aerials for my radarbox and also my airband scanner.

I intend to mount these both on the chimmney on the roof.

Is there any chance of interference between the 2 and if so how can this be avoided.

I read a post about this very recently when I was planning a rooftop aerial myself but it may have been on another forum - have a whizz round.

I'm pretty sure the answer was nothing to worry about. The question related to TV aerials as well but apparently there's no problem as long as they're not touching.

You often see clusters of mixed aerials mounted on the same towers.

it my be a good idea to set the radar box antena  higher so that  if the scanner antena creates a blind spot [which is unlikely ]  it wont be seen on the screen ....its very difficult to tell if a blind spot has been created on a scanner !

I've just mounted a Radar Rama antenna on the same mast as a Diamond D777 scanning antenna with no interference or loss of signal. I'ts made a big difference to the number of flights i am receiving, my flights have almost doubled to around 90 & network about 1400.

Hi Dunc i have mine mounted as follows the Radarbox one on the chimney stack and the scanner one on the gable wall just below the chimney stack. I have no loss on the radarbox which had been mounted first. My scanner has improved plenty. Both aerials from DPD in America.

I think it is generally acknowledged that any metal pole close to an antenna will have some affect on the polar diagram. A distance of a half a wave length or a wavelength at the lower frequency (VHF) would be preferable but at the end of the day, mounting the aerials outside and as high as possible will be the greatest advantage. What you can not hear you will not know about so it will not be measurable anyway! Good luck.
