Overlays For 3D - Glasgow
« on: February 23, 2010, 11:22:26 PM »
I have been playing around with the KML files etc in 3D & must admit to being mightly impressed. I did a quick (Very quick) mock up of a project I will do for the airports I am interested in & with some local landmarks which help me identify where I can start viewing (Line of Sight). Anyway I made up the attached file covering Glasgow & Edinburgh Airports ,as well as navigation points. Once installed (save file to your GE_Layers file in your Radarbox program, open program>3D View> External KML Manager> select Aviation.kml & hit arrow to load it onto list, hit apply , the points should all become visible. Not overly attractive but useful. Also if you right click on Glasgow or Edinburgh Airports it will bring up the tower frequencies etc for your scanner. Remember it covers Glasgow & Edinburgh so you need to zoom it there to see the landmarks.

As I say this was just a play about & I will refine it to cover what I need.

If this is of interest to anyone I could do a quick how to guide.

Let me know what you think.

Pat, as I say it is very much geared to what I want & more importantly the traffic I see. It is quite easy to do. I will write something up & post it.

The 3D is brilliant but it doesn't show the airports or navigation beacons, which I like to see, so this is a heath Robinson solution, the fact you can enter info like frequencies is a bonus.

All you need is a good set of charts, for navigation beacon placement, & to placemark your own reference points & it helps you orientate a bit easier.

Will write something up tomorrow. What Irish airport are you most interested in as I have most of the charts?
