Skyservice shuts down and plans to wind up its business

THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO - The Skyservice chartered airline based in Toronto says it is going out of business and will wind up its operations.

The company entered receivership in Ontario Superior Court today after cancelling most of its scheduled flights out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

The company says recent changes in the Canadian vacation tour market and the airline's high debt made it impossible to operate profitably.

Skyservice says one of its secured lenders demanded repayment of its loans and asked for the appointment of a receiver to wind up the company and pay off creditors.

The shutdown results in the cancellation of one flight that was scheduled to depart Canada for the Dominican Republic today as well as other flights planned for April.

The company says it will work with the company's tour operator customers and other lift providers to ensure that passenger issues are resolved promptly.
