GAF218
« on: October 06, 2009, 03:00:08 PM »
Just spotted flying overhead Glasgow heading North GAF218. The modeS code is 3FB853. No information given on the GAS site or on Airframes. Does anyone have any ideas as to the aircraft type and/or registration. Certainsly looked like a bizjet.

Looks like it might be landing at EGPE.

EDIT: Landing at EGPE, but way off the centre-line, so not GPS equipped - INS driven ADS/B.   On the live network now.

EDIT: Touch and go at EGPE.

Google it and you'll find chapter and verse on these German Air force flights.

Hello
GAF 218 is a airbus 310 from the german airforce and mostly landing at Norvenich or Koln Bonn ( Germany )

I picked that up as well at 13.44 but I'm down in Dorset.

No, it wasn't an A310.  Visual sighting from Scotavnet:

1623 "GAF 218" 12+07 CL.601 1xapp r/w 23

And AFAIK the GAF A310s use fixed Mode S codes 3F8515-3F851B, not "tactical" ones like the Challengers do (as in this case).

Tarbat,
Many thanks for being able to track this guy down. I even checked the Libhomeradar site. They have listed 4 contacts using flight ID of GAF218/GAF0218 but as with the GAS and Airframes sites no route details, no registration, no aircraft type, nothing. As I said, at first, when I spotted it flying over Glasgow he was at FL40 and using the bins it certainly looked like a bizjet therefore suspected it was one of their CL601s. Just strange that none of the usual database sites had any info when the modeS code was entered. Still, mystery solved.

Thanks again,
Ian

Yes, the Scotavnet yahoo group is a great resource for "mk1 eyeball" sightings in Scotland.

The reason you probably don't see anything in GAS is that next time 12+07 is seen it will have a new hex code. The German CL601's are as bad as Lakenheath F15's for changing their hex codes :-(

Yep, that's the code he was using on the 6th when seen overhead here.
