Using RB with Desktop & Laptop PC
« on: June 06, 2009, 10:24:32 AM »
This may sound like a very silly question but please bear with me as I'm not very
PC savvy!
I operate RadarBox (RB) using a desktop PC connected via by USB to a roof aerial in an upstairs room. This desktop PC has a broadband connection via a phone socket

I also have a seperate laptop downstairs with RB software loaded on it and this has a wireless link to the upstairs desktop in order to use the broadband connection.
My question: is it possible somehow to use the RB on the laptop downstairs accessing
the desktop pc aerial by some sort of wireless remote connection/set-up??
Either
- after the signals are received & processed on the desktop RB can i access the info on a second laptop PC. Obviously this woud be to access Myflights (not the RB network)
Or
-is it possible to 'beam' between 2 USB's on different computers without loosing signal?
Any comments appreciated.
Steve

Hi,

I can think of two available and cost free options to access the desktop of your desktop PC from your laptop:
- Windows Remote Desktop (See this example on how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=375xh4pbErI&feature=related)
- UltraVNC (Link: http://www.uvnc.com/)

Hi,

Windows Remote Desktop works perfectly fine via WiFi. I'm using Windows XP on my desktop upstairs and Vista on my laptop . So I can watch RB on my laptop screen in the garden and identify the planes in the sky !

Another solution that I use is Teamviewer - http://www.teamviewer.com/

Means I can watch a scaled view of my desktop RB window on my netbook.

Hi Chris,

I looked at TeamViewer before for something else but it looks a good solution for remotely keeping an eye on the RB from somewhere other than the main PC.

I seem to have standardised on MS Remote Desktop for all of my remote viewing both for LAN & WAN use.

I have never used VNC but might have to take a look to see what else is out there...

Kind regards,
