Supplied RB Antenna

Can anybody please tell me what configaration the supplied RB antenna is? Is the 12cm dia plate there for impedance matching? It is not electrically connected to the braid.

As an aside, I have had two replacement RB atenna's, both of which, the coax braid inside the mag dome was not connected!! Once connected the antenna,s work exremely well.

Hi Diaphone, welcome to the Forum.   The metal plate just acts as a ground plane - as a car roof will to improve reception.   Because we are in a very exposed position and the supplied disc is so light and keeps blowing off, I've got an old 405 brake disc on top of the flat roof, with the RB antenna sticking to it, this is just as effective as the supplied disc and hasn't made any bids for freedom yet despite 70mph winds over the last few weeks.

Like CoastGuardJon I am in a rather exposed position - my antenna (MD1105 GP)is on the flat roof on a biscuit tin full of rubble.

Hi Dave, we're at 50º1'0" N, 5º15'24" W, 200' amsl and about 200' from the cliff edge, next stop west, the USA, very rarely less than windy, family up-country complain about the wind when we stay - it's barely a breeze let alone a wind!   We always lose slates off the roof, but on the lee side of the gable roof, they get sucked off by the vortex formed.   We have had gusts of 135mph.

Hi Jon - yes that looks a little exposed- good view out west tho'!

Here about 400ft amsl- On the North side of Hopes Nose...so we're pretty sheltered from the prevailing winds - by it does get a little noisy (and cold) when the wind is from the N & E.
