Couple of Radar Box Questions...
« on: February 05, 2009, 11:01:15 AM »
Hi There,
I was just wondering, do I still get a warranty for the airnav radar box if I buy from www.flightstore.co.uk for £349 :), Is flightstore a good company?

By using the network, can I see all of the traffic right around the world? but with a 5 min delay of coarse.

Thank You
Johnn

Hi John, Yes, yes and a conditional yes - you'll only see traffic where there is an active RadarBox, where there ain't, you won't!

I've had books off Flightstore over the years and always found them OK.   They currently offer last year's Pooley's Flight Guide at a very reasonable £4.99, a vast reduction on full price.
ANRB :  AOR AR8000 : Icom R-7000 : Icom IC-R9000 : JRC NRD-545 : OptoElectronics Digital Scout and OptoLinx Interface; Realistic Pro-2005 : UBC 800XLT - listed in alphabetical order, not cost, preference, performance or entertainment value!

Edit:
Is there any disadvantage of installing a RB on 2 pcs? e.g. home pc and laptop for mobile use?.

Do you sometimes keep your radar-box on 24/7 ?

Thanks again
John

Colin,

There is a good video tutorial on the AitNav website here:

http://www.airnavsystems.com/RadarBox/Video/index.html

I haven't been close enough to see aircraft on the ground at Heathrow - I'm about 5 miles away so I'm seeing the aircraft down to short finals.  I can see aircraft on the ground via the Network though.

I suggest that you use the altitude filter in the "Advanced" menu to only watch aircraft between 0 and 15000 feet otherwise your screen will be just too cluttered.  You could also set up your favorite operators in Fleet Watch and that will allow you to tick the "Show only fleet watch aircraft on map".  Get the high detail outline file for Heathrow and put this in your Outlines folder so that you can see the airport in detail.

Hope this gives you a few ideas :-)

You can install RB on as many PC's as you like, as it will only show live/Network aircraft when the hardware receiver is connected by USB.  However, you can replay recorded files without having the hardware connected - good for demonstrations when you can't set up the antenna.

You will end up with different Navdata and MyLog databases on each PC. You can  copy these back and forward on a USB stick depending on how serious you are about records.  I would always suggest that you copy the NavData.db3 from the main PC to the secondary PC (laptop?) so that you have access to the most complete source database when away from the Internet.
