New user and already a question
« on: December 18, 2008, 07:04:48 PM »
Hello all,

I'm a new RadarBox user and I'm located 15 NM east from Paris Charles de Gaulle. I'm tracking departures and arrivals while listening them on the VHF.

Does anyone know how to import charts such as SID and STAR or even other kind of maps, and how to calibrate them.
I'd like to set them as background in addition of existing data.

Any help will be welcome.

Thanks by advance.

Stéphane.

Take a look at http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1447.msg11182#msg11182

You can use any map image, and use my spreadsheet in that thread to create the calibration file for the map.  I haven't done it for a while, but others may have done this more recently.

Hello Tarbat

Thank you very much for the quick answer.
I've just downloaded your spreadsheet and had a look to the link. It looks to be exactly what I need.
I'll give you a feedback.

Thanks again

Stéphane

Hello, Stéphane, I'm in south Central France south of Limoges.  You can get all the French aeronautical publications from:

http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/html/frameset_aip_uk.htm

Although you probably already knew that...

Hello Deadcalm,

Thanks for the link. I already knew it indeed, and I use it regularly.
I'm trying to use SID and STAR charts from this file 0813_AD-2.LFPG.pdf

at https://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/aip/enligne/uk/ARR%20DEPframeset.htm.

I'm used to extract and convert sheets from PDF to an image file, but I'm struggling with datum and projections. I assume they are UTM.
The attempts I made to import a map in RB are quiet good but I still have a slight shift (2 or 3 arc min) between fixes.
I will keep on with further tests and with different kinds of maps.

Stéphane

Hi Stéphane.  I'd really like to see what your SID and STAR charts look like when loaded into Radarbox.  Perhaps you could post a screenshot when you're happy with the results.

Hello Tarbat,

I will do it as soon as I will be able to do it with no shame...
Stay tuned.
