antenna and radarbox
« on: November 22, 2008, 10:10:36 AM »
Hi

When putting the antenna in the loft does the radarbox itself have to be near the antenna? at the mo my antnenna is on the window cill outside and the box on the inside cill and get good coverage, was just thinking it could even be better in the loft?

Cheers
Mark

You can either have the RB in the loft, and use a long USB lead.  Or keep the RB in the house and use a long antenna lead.

I used a 4m long USB lead, as you'll probably get significant signal loss with a long antenna lead.

I now use a pre-amp in the loft, with the RB in the house.

Hi,

As part of my switch over from SBS I have to make a similar sort of choice.

I currently have an external aerial which has a lead down to it terminating in a (frankly) massive N type connector.

Up until now this was patched directly into the old SBS with a 10cms Ntype to BNC lead, and then I had a 5 mtr or so USB cable running down into the room below and into the PC.

Now, what I was thinking of with the RB rig was getting somebody to make me up a 5 mtr co-ax lead with an SMA at one end and an N type at the other, so that I could keep the RB in my office (avoids having to climb into the loft every time I want to travel with the unit).

However, would I be better off getting hold of a small N type to SMA patch, then running a long USB mini to USB cable between a loft mounted RB and the PC?

Cheers

Hi,

Ordered up my patch lead this afternoon (not from Martin-Lynch who basically told me to bog off!!) so I will be going down the other route of running a short USB and a longer link lead to the loft.

If it doesnt work,, I can always switch over. Just fancy keeping the RB unit to hand as I quite often go out and about with it and its a bind having to keep climbing into the loft

Evening All, I`ve put my aerial in the loft but would like to put a permanent one up, can anyone sujest a good rig. Also I`ve been having problems feeding the RB through a Belkin F5L009 ver2 usb hub over the WiFi so I can move around the house, my laptop crashes with a blue stop error screen on Vista Ultimate, is there a fix please?

What happens when the RadarBox is just connected to the computer without the hub? This sounds like a belkin usb issue to us.
