Monarch Aircraft ???
« on: June 26, 2008, 08:00:44 PM »
I have noticed that Monarch have made some additions to their fleet.

G-OZBP Mode S 4008CC
G-OZBN Mode S 400830

The aircraft above used to be operated by GB Airways & BMI

Radarbox is still showing these aircraft with their old registration as below,

Mode S 4008CC G-TTIB
Mode S 400830 G-MIDK

See attached screenshot.

How do we get Radarbox to automatically update the database with these changes, as I am sure it is not just a problem with the Monarch fleet?

Regards,

Christian

Hi Cam,
you must update database manually.
Go to www.airframes.org and see the data of this aircraft.
And chnge in database.
OK?
Regards.

Thanks for the answer but, in some sort of way that was the answer I was expecting ! I was hoping there would be some auto update of the database!?!

How do we all keep ahead of all the changes that occur to aircraft in their life, do we have to trawl through every aircraft DB in the world to update who now operates them, after all there are 100k+ aircraft in the world?

I would expect RB to update every now and again to at least try and keep infront of the times.

RadarBox uses the information from the Gatwick Aviation Society (GAS) Database:

http://www.gatwickaviationsociety.org.uk/modeslookup.asp

AirNav don't maintain this database, it's maintained voluntarily by the GAS chaps.  Although GAS do their best - bearing in mind they do this for free -  the database is never going to be 100% up to date.

Allocator,

GAS is upto date and that's what I am struggling to understand, when does RB look a GAS?

Evertime an aircraft is received ?

Sorry, I misread your email - yes GAS is up to date.

RB doesn't actually look at GAS, the AirNav server queries the GAS database, then RB gets its information from the server.  This prevents hundreds of RB's looking at the GAS server and causing an overload.

I think that the problem is that if RB finds an already populated aircraft record in its database, then it doesn't update it just in case you have made a manual change.  I can't see how else this could be made to work.  If GAS hadn't been updated and you put the new details into the RB database manually, you wouldn't want the AirNav Server to then overwrite your manual edit.
