RadarBox24 an urban myth?
« on: March 25, 2016, 12:10:23 PM »
I really would like to contribute to sending and receiving aircraft information from my area and have been waiting for a Box for quite a long time, it seems it's always hitting a snag, if I could buy one at cost I would, but that's not an option, the small one that's shown I don't think would be good for a feeder, so has anyone else received a box?, I have spoken to Alan McKnight and he is really nice and says just be patient.

About the small ones (Reveivers):

I'm using Classic Box (officially not longer available) since 2007 and since Nov2009 in 24/7 operation (almost 56000 hours) to feed Radarbox Network. Since beginning of 2015 I'm using one of these small sticks (R820T + RTL2832U based RTL-SDR)  to feed FR24.com. Since late 2015, with V6.00.000 available, I'm using another one (R820T2 + RTL2832U based) for mobile actions with classic WINDOWS Software. Aside the few bugs in the V6 Software the reception performance of these RTL-SDR Sticks is at least equal to if not even better than the classical Hardware box.
As far as I know the new boxes are based on RTL-SDR ICs too.

Very simple spoken the new Box would be more or less a RTL-SDR Dongle and a Raspberry PI alike linux based micro PC with some other additional hardware options (GPS Receiver, second RTL-SDR for e.g. VHF reception) integratet in one case.

If you have the time and the delight for some experimenting, why not purchasing one of these sticks for about 12€ to 25€  (£12 to £20 / 10$ to 25$) and do some toying. I can asure you, that they are capable to be used for permanent feeding (24/7 operation) as they are running very stable*. *As stable as the used feeding software.

John,

This one works very well in conjunction with the V6 software

If you have an antenna with an SMA connector you would also need this cable
