Direct link to forum and airliners
« on: May 16, 2013, 02:15:48 PM »
I seem to have lost again the direct link to General Discussions via the forum tab and also the direct link to Airliners by clicking on the individual bitmap photos. This was happening a couple of months ago but was then sorted. Is anyone else finding that this problem has returned ?

Ian,

I dont normally have photos on display but have just put them on and by clicking on the photo I am taken to the large photo in Airliners.

Similarly just tried the forum/General discussions and it worked straight away.

Alan and everyone else,

Everything is now working normally. The problem has been that a so called 'Microsoft important download' was executed. This download contained amongst others Google Chrome and it has been this that has caused the problem. I have had to uninstall Google Chrome and perform a system restore to last week and restart the computer and now all is ok.

The moral is DO NOT let Google Chrome be downloaded as at least, in my case, it has caused a major conflict with AN.

I have Chrome on my computer and its running alongside IE9 as some things seem to work beeter on it.  Did you get the download from Microsoft Update as I cannot see them offering anything but Microsoft software.

It wouldnt be the first time that a Microsoft update has caised problems

Alan,

It did come from a Microsoft update. After doing a system restore, I downloaded the update again but this time not all at once. I downloaded the individual components of it and by process of elimination it was Google Chrome which was causing the problem. It should be noted that Google Chrome was not even mentioned as being included in the update it just seemed to have been done automatically along with it.

All is well now thank goodness.

Update on this problem.

It would appear that the culprit is Avast anti virus software. Avast itself works perfectly ok, however should it signal that an 'important update' requires to be downloaded, it would be advisable to check first just what the 'important update' is for. The last one again downloaded 'Chrome' and ,once again, all direct links to the forum via the forum tab were lost along with the direct link to Airliners via the individual photos. Result, another restore had to be performed.
Moral is to be careful regarding Chrome. It may not be a problem with everyone but it certainly is for me !

hy EK01, i had similar troubles some time ago after a, unwanted, installation of Crome on my PC
here is a link to download a registration fix to restore the Explorer defaults

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/61291131/Explorer%20repair%20defaults.reg

just in case you, or somebody else run in to Crome again, it's a easy way to fix it, without having to restore and reinstall things

It pays to be careful with some software downloads especially freeware, give the page a good read and make sure that you dont have to tick or untick the offer of something else you dont want before pressing the download now button.

Thanks for the information. As I say, it did not appear to be 'avast' at fault but the fact it downloaded 'chrome' and that program seemed to cause the problem.
