NavData.db3 and MyLog.db3 Editing Tools Now Available
« on: September 16, 2012, 01:44:01 PM »
Afternoon All,

Following on from the launch last year of the NavData.db3 Editing Tool, we are pleased to announce today the launch of the MyLog.db3 Editing Tool for general use. It really is as simple as the NavData.db3 Tool and works on exactly the same principle.

Please would you use the following website address to download the tool: www.earthimage.co.za/AnrbDb3Tool as the previous website has been discontinued.

The MyLog Tool extracts 4 files to MS Excel and the most important file appears to be the "aircraft" file. This is where you will probably want to do most of your editing.

PLEASE NOTE
The installation file (AnrbDb3Tool.msi) installs BOTH programmes on to your computer. Each programme is discerned from the other by a different colour. Please uninstall the previous version of the NavData.db3 Tool to prevent any conflict during the installation process. A Zip folder is also supplied should the installation file not work properly for you. Please do read the Users Manual for all the required information.

If you have any questions you need answered please post them here and we will endeavour to answer them for you.

The MyLog editing Tool did great Job while I was processing a Back-Log of almost three weeks of unknown airframes. I've tested MyLog editing tool with my 1 and a half year old MyLog, which is 190MB big.

I noticed the following:

-processing takes while (5-10minutes)
-opening flightsold takes a few minutes (75MB file-size)
-do not try opening such big EXCEL file on a 64-Bit machine if you have less than 4GB of RAM

Question: what happens if flightsold will require more than the 1048576 lines, currently my MyLog needs 862805 lines giving me a spare of 185.771 lines.

Haven' t tested the re-combining yet. (Because I didn't need to do it)

But, many thanks was the possibility to alter the MyLog the same way as it was/is possible with the NavData.

regards Ingo

Hi Ingo,

Glad the tool is being used!
The recombining might take even longer...

The 1048576 is an issue - I think that is why databases are used instead of spreadsheets. There could be an option to export files to CSV, but then what would you use to edit them and will it be usefull? A database tool such as Squirrel(http://squirrel-sql.sourceforge.net/) will be better in my opinion, but then you would have to brush upon your SQL :->

Craig.

Hi,

Use the tool for extracting navdata.db3 for a while but this morning use it to complie navdata.db3 and found the following error:

What I did was trying to recompile Oct Navdata with existing routes.xlsx.  Just extract both navdata.db3 to different directory, move old routes.xlsx to new navdata directory and recomplie, no edit.  When error happened the Newnavdata.db3 is about 22MB.  I'm feel that the final size should be around 37MB.   I did it twice and it happen the same.

have you checked you're anlv_photo_asdi.xlsx file ?
probably it is empty ; cel A1 should contain CO, B1 AT and C1 AR
had the same problem a while ago, and even now, when i aply the update, i always have to replace the anlv_photo_asdi file before i make a compile with other "personel" files like "airlines.xlsx" ; it's always empty when it comes out of the extraction of the updated DBase.

Thanks vonsmalhausen!

At what stage does the empty line appear? Is it created by the extract, or does it happen when you manually edit the Excel file?

i think the line is empty in the DBase used by the DB update team ; aldo i had replaced the empty file with the correct one last time i extracted/recompile my previous DB3 file, after i run the latest update and extracted the fiiles with the Editing tool, the anlv_photo_asdi file was empty again ( i have a copy of the corect one, so i just have to replace it together with the Airline file i want to keep as it is )
anyway, it occures by the extraction, as the file was correct before and i did no editing ( just opening it to check ) ; i just replace these 2 files before recompiling

vonsmalhausen,

For info that photo file comes from the server, updaters have no access to it.

Thanks Runway 31,

are you saying that if you edit the anlv_photo_asdi table changes will be discarded?
At what stage is it overridden by Radarbox?
Is it useful manipulating it at all?

Craig.

The Radarbox looks to your photo folder first for photographs and if there uses them.  If there are none that match the registration it then looks to the server and gets them and downloads to your photo folder if not there, it then looks to the photo provider to see if it is available there and downloads to your photo folder.

You dont need to bother with database for photographs.  If you want particular photgraphs to be used the easiest way is to add them to your photo folder and name them with theaircraft registration.

We updaters can assign photographs from the photo provider to the registration but thats as far as we go.
