Glass Runways - Thе Art of Rod Bearden

Many types of runways exist in aviation world - concrete, asphalt, gravel, grass…

But every RadarBox user knows that one more very special type of runways exists – glass one. Referred in our community as outlines, we see these runways on glass screens of our Radarbox’s stations monitors every day. From the world’s mega-hubs to small strips on leisure islands, from frozen Alaska to tropical Brazil they give us spectacular view of “ground” life of aircrafts and airports across the world.

And our Outlines folders are not just а storage of some text files, but the definitive collection of the works of Radarbox themes' remarkable artist Rod Bearden.

His ehthusiasm, optimism, and imagination inspires everyone in our community, and I'm one of them.

With my deep respect and thanks to Rod, as well as to all people who develop, support and fill RadarBox Network, I want to open here а small gallery of his works. Enjoy….

I agree whole heartedly with my fellow ANRB colleagues, Rod certainly enhances this superb hobby and thanks to Nick who showed the wonderful work he does with the pictures above. It's a superb comparrison between Nicks photos and Rods 'outlines' :)

Best regards Dave.

Well, thanks, for that, Nick.

As I've said before, I do it because I enjoy it - whether it's outlines, logos, or the "silhouettes", and I've developed a few tricks to speed up their production - but it would be boring if it was too easy!

The outlines can be interesting to do as I'm seeing the airfields in great detail in Google Earth - in the last few I've spotted a Saab Draken with several Hunters, a TS-11 Iskra, and an Il-14, all lurking in US airports, and LFRH revealed lots of interesting old planes, some as gate guards and others just rotting. All fascinating stuff.

And as long as people download them, I'm happy to keep posting them.

And happy Christmas to you too!

Rod

New уear has come and a new hall in Rod Bearden’s Glass Runways Gallery is about to open. Some pictures present in this hall were painted during Max Effort Day in December and others just few days ago and still keep the smell of the fresh paint …

With your permission, Rod and colleagues, I proceed to а ribbon cutting ceremony. Enjoy…

The past few months were marked with significant increase of RadarBox Network coverage. We may see new stations оn all continents and as a result even more pictures of ground traffic in the world airports appear on virtual walls of the Glass Runways Gallery.

And I admire Rod Bearden’s enthusiasm in creation of more new outlines for new locations and our new colleagues. I would like to thank separately Rod for creation of outlines of home ports for absolutely all new users of RadarBox on the territory of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

But our gallery isn’t only Rod Bearden’s Art Exhibition.

Each of these pictures has a few authors.  Rod Bearden - as a creator of fantastic backgrounds and our colleagues, who painted their own pictures of the sky on it.

And sure, many thanks to AirNav guys, who provide canvas, brushes and paints for these works, as well as to authors of airports photos.

So, the new hall is opening. Welcome…
