ATC referring to " Deconfliction Service"

Hi all, listening to London West ATC 132.950 MHz AM, they frequently offer aircraft short cuts (if the a/c crew aren't requesting them!) but will then say this is a "deconfliction service" - what exactly is a deconfliction service?

Basically the shortcut offered takes them outside of the airway system into open class G airspace. Where the airliner is no longer afforded the protection of the airway. Just as for every single other user of open airspace it is then the responsibility of the airliner pilot to 'see and avoid' all aircraft including gliders, balloons and light aircraft that do not show up on NATS radars.
The NATS controller will however continue to deconflict with known radar traffic and will issue radar vectors for avoidance for this known radar traffic only.

It would also be worth you googling ATSOCAS (Air Traffic Service Outside of Controlled Airspace). Will give you alot of forum discussion. The Basic Service, Traffic Service and Deconfliction Service were introduced in 2009, replacing the previous FIS, RIS and RAS.
This is a good link
