Radar
« on: July 03, 2011, 09:26:41 AM »
Hi Guys,

New to the site and so far so good! I have been checking out the Heathrow cam link, some great stuff there. Love the Live Radar link. Now having only just recently joined and reading up on the RadarBox, I'm really keen.

Although at this stage I haven't a clue what to buy exactly as there seems to be different packages? Can anyone give any pointers? Basically I'd like the box and would prefer to have a non-delayed network etc.

Also the Live Radar over on Heathrow cam, it seems to have frozen or is that limited access? Even so, I guess that is basically what one would receive with the box.

Cheers :)

Hi Richie,

When you buy the Radarbox it comes with the 5 minute delayed network at no additional cost for a year.  You can however upgrade to the live network and the cost is here http://www.airnavsystems.com/RadarBox/order.html

If you have no need for 3D stick to the radarbox Pro version, I would think it would be the prefered choice for most people.

I dont know about the Heathrow live radar as having the box and network I have never had a need to use it.

Whatever you chosse you wont go wrong.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for that info, I'd think my location in Slough would give me good coverage of Heathrow with the standard antenna too which is going to be a factor.

The Live Radar has helped me decide I want to buy a RadarBox because it looks a fantastic piece of kit. With luck it'll work out well for me and without needing to buy a larger antenna.

May I ask where and how do you have yours set up? What is your range with that? Are you near Heathrow?

Many Thanks

Hi Richie,

I,m up in Motherwell in Scotland.  I have a DPD antenna which is in the attic.  It gives good coverage but would be better outside but the improvement would be at the expense and trouble of installing it outside and the neighbours may not like the site of it but I am happy with it as it is, especially when combined with the live network.

The coverage the supplied antenna and a larger antenna gives is dependant on a number of factors such as your location and the surroundings, as it works by line of sight and lots of things like buildings, hills etc can cause limitations.

Saying that you get good distance with the supplied antenna, over 100 miles is very possible.  I was in Dublin recently and with it sitting on the hotel window was picking up aircraft over Birmingham.  Also at Glasgow Airport and was picking up aircraft over Dublin.  There are lots of factors to contend with but there are usually ways round them.

With the DPD antenna I get coverage all the way from Inverness to below Teeside over to Blackpool and over below Belfast and Donegal
