Mode S Miscodes

Yes it happens with other receivers,. There was a query regarding this on the mode-s forum the other week and the user concerned was using another receiver.

What do people regard as a "sensibly low" time-out figure to hopefully ensure these "rogue" aircraft are removed ASAP from My Flights ?

Depends on whether you get these miscodes or not.  I've never noticed any corrupted hex codes, but I'm in a low traffic area with patchy reception conditions, so I set local timeouts to 30/90 (30s to timout, 120s to delete).  That does mean that if my RB received a corrupted hex code, it would stay on screen for 2 minutes.

It's a compromise between high timeouts to keep aircraft on screen during lost reception, and low timeouts to ensure "miscodes" dissapear quickly.  In high traffic areas with good reception conditions, I would set the timeouts to less than 30/90.

Just after i conversed with Tarbat & Airnav and what do i see duplicate Easyjets.

Within the space of 30 mins i had the following within my RB detection:-
400C03
400C08
400C04
400C00
400C02

I am in a very busy area (>2000 logged a day) so conflicts are going to be more prevelent. Also in my records i keep of error miscodes two of these have occurred before but i had not checked for similar codes.

Don't know it proves anything but its something i will keep an eye on.

Are those hexes showing as Easyjet aircraft Brian and in what way?

They all show in Mylog as Easy Jet.

I have been working on my second computer for the last two days i am wondering if i have some corruption as within the last hour i have duplicate flight id's popping up.

Will get back to you when i check out my old computer.
