Sheraton Deira - Dubai
« on: November 19, 2010, 09:25:04 AM »
Morning All,

I am staying at the above hotel for 8 nights from 22/11/10.

If anyone has stayed there recently, what is the current situation with regards to using ANRB by the roof top pool.

Also what room numbers are recommeded for overlooking arrivals early morning and maybe nightime arrivals.

Any advice gratefully received.

Regards

Phil

Never been there so can't say about present situation but this is from plane spotting hotels website

The Sheraton Deira Hotel is widely regarded as the best hotel at this very interesting and increasingly busy airport. The hotel has 6 floors with some rooms facing the airport. The airport is approximately one mile away and a taxi is required to get to and from the terminal. On top of the hotel roof there is an excellent swimming pool area with bar. From here you can see the runway and taxiways. In the morning heat haze can be a real problem but this eases as the day goes along. Aircraft usually land over the hotel during the night and first thing on a morning and depart over the hotel during the main part of the day.
Many of the aircraft can be read off with the naked eye but certainly not all. The swimming pool area has English style plug sockets so SBS came in very handy!

Location  *** Great location and great weather!

Spotting  **   The rooftop is the place to be. Sit by the pool and watch the movements pass by the airport. The pool deck is open between approximately 0700-2230. Rooms ending in 10-15 will also give views of the approach/climb out.

Photos    ***  At the time of writing there were no problems using cameras to obtain some excellent shots.

Value      *  Expensive but well worth the money if you can afford it for a relaxing holiday.

I have not stayed there recently, I stayed last year with no problem at all.
I was up on the roof from the minute it opened till the munute it closed with
my Airnav Radarox and encountered no problems what so ever.
There are plug sockets and mine was plugged in all the time with no questions
asked ,probably best to try and be a bit discreet though as other hotel guests
do look at you a bit suspicially.
All the pool staff are familiar with what we do and they seem to understand
about our radar boxes.
As for room numbers I am sorry I cant remember, the first room they gave me
was bad all i could see was nothing but hotel rooms on every side ,fortunately
I managed to get it changed and luckily i could see approaching aircraft or
depending on wind departing overhead ,I am pretty sure the best rooms will be
on the far left hand side of the hotel as you stand at the main entrance.

Morning All,

Just returned from a sunny Dubai to a rather chilly UK !!

Relaxed by the pool most days, pool staff are very used to people using bins and scopes, however word of warning, although OK to use by pool, try not to place scope on surrounding wall as anyone looking up from street level would maybe see something more sinister than a scope.

I used my ANRB most nights round the pool area until it closed around 2230/2300, on more that one occasion I was asked by the staff if I wanted an extension cord for my laptop, as I said very friendly. A hotel security guard walks round every couple of hours but again no problems, a polite "good morning, evening " and on his way.

I didnt get an airport view room, but on making enquires and looking at corridors etc, numbers 404-415, and 440-455 would seem to either look over airport or approach from over the sea. I would the same numbers would correspond for the other floors , obviously higher floors are better.

Food is reasonable round the pool, burger, blt, shawarma, approx £7-£8, beer however is expensive, Heiniken, Amstel £5 @ 330ml bottle.

All in all an excellent break, and if anyone gets the change to stay there, they will not be disapointed.

Any further questions , pm me and I will try to help.

Regards

Phil
