Antenna in front of satellite dish.
« on: September 06, 2010, 04:09:10 PM »
Hi,

I recently received my DPD antenna.

I was aiming at installing the antenna as near to the ridge (apex) of the roof as possible (on the back slope). The only problem is that the pole/antenna will be in front of the satellite dish.

Will it give me problems with the satellite reception/signal?

Photo attached.

Thanks

Andrew

If the DPD does not come in the direct view between the dish and the Satellite, than no there will be no problem with the Satellite reception. But even if the DPD will shadow a part of the dish it will only cost you a little of your bad-weather reserve.

The other way round will be the more relevant part. The huge shadow of the reflector may/will cause a range reduction of you RB reception in the direction of the SAT antenna. But will properly give you a range spike of reception in the opposite direction.

This all only counts if you planning to place the DPD antenna in front of the dish. If you planning to place a pole for the DPD in front of the Dish, well this will have a negative effect on your Satellite reception, as the diameter of a pole is bigger than the diameter of the DPD. Higher diameter means more shadow, means less signal comes through from the Satellite.
