Royal Air Maroc B737 bird strike
« on: June 07, 2010, 09:45:21 AM »
A Boeing 737 from Royal Air Maroc suffered a major bird strike yesterday evening after lift off from EHAM. The Registration number is : CN-RMF. Mode-S: 020001, flight id.:RAM685R.

Just after lift off from EHAM the plane was hit by birds, the left engine caught fire. Because the aircraft was flying at quite a low altitude (800-900 feet), it caused a bit of a panic on the ground (and of course in the plane..). The flames were clearly visible, when the plane was flying over a major suburb of the city of Haarlem at an altitude of 800 feet. Remarkable. For those interested: I have enclosed a copy of a Radarbox .rbl recording ( one of the best features of this software, I think) I have made from the last 10 minutes of this flight. The aircraft did not transmit any ADS-B, so you only can watch it on the grid.

Regards, Frank

I am not sure about that. Eye-witnesses and officials at EHAM said today that there was never been a fire on board of this a/c after the bird strike....

After the bird strike the cockpitcrew switched off the engine involved immediately.

When an engine ingests a bird it's very common to see flames being emitted.

Some confusion about which engine it was, also, by the looks of it, with witnesses stating the right one was damaged, and photographs showing the left one damaged....

Hello dl1812

The Aviation Herald is a brilliant site for info.  We visit it everyday more than once.  Learned a lot from it.
