Hi all,
For a while now I've wanted to plot aircraft on google maps.
I've been working on a little project which still has a long way to go but thought i'd show what i've done so far.
The data is currently updated every 20 seconds. This may change depending on load on the servers. I'm hoping I won't need to though.
Also, for the next 3.5 hours, Sydney has a flight curfew (it's 2:30am at the moment and the curfew is in place every night between 11pm-6am). While the curfew is in place and so I can show what the site does, I'm using a 3.2 minute loop of aircraft data from sbssim.
I'll be adding a fair amount of functionality including plotting all aircraft at once, a custom icon for the aircraft rather than the standard google maps icon. An info balloon, etc.
You'll also notice the following:
- Some photo's don't change (This is because I will be adding new photo's over time, once I get the permissions from the photographers and I have the time to do it).
- The About Flighttracker tab just has crap text at the moment. This will eventually be replaced by more tabs and adding some html etc
-While the 5 aircraft in the loop don't have a squawk code, when it has live aircraft (after the curfew), squawk codes will appear. I also have conditional statements that will blink the squawk in the event it's 7500, 7600, or 7700 (never actually seen one though).
Anyway, have a look and let me know what you think so far. Just bare in mind it's a work in progress.

Edit: It's now after 6am so it's live data.
