Google Map Overlays for Australia ?
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:07:03 AM »
Hi all,

I saw somewhere on here some great looking screenshots of RB using photo realistic maps.

Are there any such maps available for Australia that I could download from somewhere ?

I read the post with the basic tutorial to make your own, but all a bit techo for me.

Also, are there any user created colour files available anywhere ?

Cheers,
Paul.

Paul,

I presume that you mean maps other than the RadaraBox colour satellite map downloads?

Hi Allocator,

I am a bit confused.

I downloaded the demo software and can now see the satellite map download feature. (I guess I need to have a registered copy of the software for that to work) ?

Why then would you want or need to scan in any other images ?

And how do I load (what do I need to do) with those 'Outline' txt files to get the airport diagrams displayed ?

All looks good from the screen shots.

Cheers,

Paul.

The satellite maps are a bit boring for some locations.  I like the idea of google maps as a replacement because I like to see what suburbs aircraft are flying over.  I live in Sydney Australia (still thinking of buying the RB), and having the ability to use a google map terrain or street map is a big plus over using the SBS-1 (which I already own).  It's a bit of a pain to create the maps though..  Not so much due to the procedure of doing it, but because seeing a JPG always comes out looking like crap to me.  I want a really nice looking map behind the aircraft so I know exactly where it is.

The other issue is the JPG doesn't have transparency so i've yet to get a google map to look really good with aircraft on top.. Just a time consuming thing.. Hopefully I'll figure out a nice combination of colors and maps.

I would love to see other people's color profiles though.

Incidently, just a quick question.. can you only view one satellite overlay at a time?
