Airport labels
« on: July 25, 2009, 11:59:12 PM »
I have noticed that I get different airport name labels appearing at different levels of zoom. Sometimes I have noticed new ones appear and some others have disappeared. This also happens when I do not zoom. Different labels appear when I reboot. Strange!
It is not always related to zoom.
I noticed Middle Wallop appeared one day but I haven't seen it for a week.

This is correct behaviour to avoid label overlap.

No it is not that as this is down in the south west where there is little traffic and plenty of space so no overlap. Some days some labels are there and some days not!

On another matter, if you have the time to answer, I suffer from the software reacting very slow sometimes to the point where the prog crashes. I see anywhere between 100-200 flights in Myflights. I noticed last eve when there was little activity, maybe 12 flights shown, that everything thing worked much better. Obviously my CPU is having to work harder with more traffic but is there a limit on how much the RB can handle.
I am running a 3.6Ghz Pentium 4 processor so I would have thought it should cope fine?

Jeremy, 100 to 200 flights in MyFlights is very impressive - either you have a very good antenna, or the timeout settings you are using are a bit long - or maybe a bit of both?

Time out settings are default settings.
Antenna is at 25ft on the bungalow chimney, no pre-amp.
I am in the center of the UK which helps with Heathrow and Gatwick close.
At the moment I have 140 on the list (Sunday 1345) and sometimes I see 250!
My poor cpu struggles to cope. Perhaps I should try filtering v distance.

OK Jeremy, nice antenna setup and location.  The maximum I've ever had in MyFlights is about 90 but having more in the list hasn't affected the speed of RB.  Maybe it is your graphics card that is struggling?  Might that explain why sometimes you can see the airport labels and sometimes you can't?  Just guessing really as I don't know what your PC setup is.

Jeremy,

Are you using the latest beta? as it should be improve your running. When you say Pentium 4, they were last made in 2005 so I would guess your machine is 4 years +.

Under the load from the traffic, you can either increase the refresh time to 2-4 seconds which should put less pressure or turn down a few of the graphic funtions.

Thanks chaps.I suppose my computer could be that old - time flies past! I am running 2 x 20 inch screens so it could be the graphic card.
I am using the latest beta.
I will try the refresh rate change and also talk to my IT support at work, as it is their machine and perhaps their chairman is due for an ungrade!
