HELP!!!
« on: July 13, 2009, 07:02:55 PM »
Okay,   I know this has been explained before, but I am having a little bit of difficulty with the database.  I literally spent hours removing all of the "..." aircraft types and checking all of the "Tie-up extracted from country sequence" codes.
I went to my log and selected the update (I can't recall the exact name of the menu items) command from the tools menu.  My understanding was that the update feature updated mylog from the offline database only.  After the update was completed, I had hundreds of "..." 's back in the database!  I am depressed!  It appears that I screwed it up by my own doing, but I'm not happy.
I know there's another forum for this. but Airnav, would there be a way to add an "undo" feature similar to Microsoft Word or other programs that would permit one to reverse these catastrophic changes?

Mark,

Just confirm what you did here.

You said that you spent ages removing all the '...' aircraft types.  How did you do this?

I went through the database manually and, using a website that had all of the ICAO designators, changed the "..."  to what they should be and corrected a few wrong ones in the DB while I was at it.

But how did you go through the database, did you use MyLog or did you use Database Explorer?

I used database explorer, did a search for any a/c that had a ... for the AT and fixed each one.  I figured that instead of updating the database and mylog separately, I would fix the database and try to update mylog using the corrected database.  Apparently, it didn't quite work out that way.

OK Mark, that should have worked.

Did you also delete all the '...' entries in MyLog before you used Tools > Populate in MyLog?  You need blank fields in MyLog otherwise the correct data won't be written into those fields.

Just confirm again that you removed all the '...' using Database Explorer, and if you go into Database Explorer now, all those '...' entries have come back?

OK, here it is in pictures.

G-AGTM in MyLog with aircraft type as '...'

Got to Database Explorer and search for G-AGTM

Replace '...' with correct type DH89

Exit Database Explorer

Open MyLog and find G-AGTM

Delete the incorrect aircraft type '...'

Use Tools > Populate

And the blank aircraft type is populated from the main database as DH89

I did not delete the entries in mylog.  Only in database explorer.
It does appear that all or most of the '...' entries are back.

Mark,

See the explanation above.

Try this with one aircraft as I have done and see if it works.

Make sure you follow the same order.  Remember that you are working with 2 completely separate databases here - NavData.db3 edited using DataBase Explorer and MyLog.db3 that is edited when you use MyLog.

MyLog gets its data from NavData.db3, but data WILL NOT be overwritten in MyLog unless that field is EMPTY.  This is how it is supposed to work as MyLog is a historical record of what you have seen in the past.
